You might want to call the state association office (205) 991-9779 and talk to Scott Spencer, the state director of coaching. He was the women's coach at the University of Memphis for a while, and he can probably give you some good background. Also, Sarah Strickland, my club's assistant DOC, played at George Madison and has coached at AUM and Troy, so she may some perspective as well that you can use with the Auburn AD and whoever else you talk to. If you are interested PM me and I'll give you her phone number, or you can email her at doc-girls@americansoccer.org

And not to keep beating a dead horse, I bet you Mike Getman at UAB would be happy to give you a ballpark figure on the budget requirements for a Division I men's program.

My cousin works at the SEC office here in B'ham. I'm sure she'd be helpful in getting you any info she can. Her name is Megan Patterson.

I have a personal agenda here, Nicodemus145. My oldest player is an incoming freshman at Oak Mountain. He would like to play in college at an SEC school.

    Get cracking!

I have no doubt that the misinterpretation of Title IX is the driving force as to why there is no men's soccer in the SEC. Title IX is a good act so misued by so many lawyers and others with agendas. (I can speak ill of lawyers, being one)

MD 20/20. How is Sarah doing? She used to be the soccer director here in Montgomery.

I still can't believe I live in a city with a metropolitan area population of nearly 2 million people in a city that hosted the World Cup and it isn't playing here.

She's doing a great job, we are very fortunate to have her working with the kids. She has more energy than any three people, and the kids work hard for her.

She's a great coach; not the best in organizing though. It seems she is in her niche'.

Just got back from my first tryouts with Mt Brook SC. Went well. Some good U11 girls.

With the exception of pvan4 who seems very organized, I have found that soccer savvy and organization are usually orthogonal characteristics in coaches.

The key to success is putting the right skills in the right situation. I don't need her to organize, I need her to develop and motivate kids. Organizers I have aplenty, and they are singularly unsuccessful in getting developmental and competitive results out of players. (I should know, I am one.)

OK, who is going to start the "Birmingham - Wednesday night - 31K / SLC - Saturday doubleheader - 40K Attendance Thread" ???

I don't want to hear anything about our attendance ever again.

Exactly, especially when C'bus and other MLS cities have drawn less than B'ham for qualies on a weekend.

I totally agree with your assessment. Sarah had a difficult time running the entire soccer program here, but she is an outstanding coach. Coach Teach at AUM is similar, but my son loves him because he is an excellent coach. By the way, AUM has its clinic this week. Are any ASC players participating?

I doubt it, not because Brett doesn't run a good camp, but because this is tryouts week. Be seen or go home, you know.

It is tryout week here too, but the tryout fields are only a few hundred yards from AUM, so no big deal. I'm picking up my son at 8:00; 12 hours of soccer camp. I bet he is tired and will sleep well.

    Tryout results

w00t! We picked up 4 ODP players, including two from Prattville and one from Jacksonville. Could be a great season for the 91's.

Now all we have to do is survive regionals in Dallas in two weeks with only one sub.

    Re: Tryout results

Attrition. The curse of the fall state cup. Two of our players moved (one to Ohio and one out of the country) after they were locked to the blue roster at State Cup. We were only carrying 14 at the time, because of other attrition from the 16 we originally signed.
