I didn't notice this last week, but apparently there is a single line item in the Iraq funding bill, that allocated $8.5 million in funds to Miami and its neighboring communities to assist in hosting the Free Trade Area of the Americas conference later this month. (http://www.palmbeachpost.com/busine...ns/tuesday/business_f37a8244463e20d7007f.html) I guess if you don't vote to give millions to Miami, you're aiding the terrorists.
This is such blatent pandering, I'm surprised the bill didn't stipulate the name of the conference be changed to, "Free Trade Area of the Americas Minus Any Country With A Head of State Named Castro".
I heard about this last week but wanted to wait and see if it was just rumor. There's bound to be some WTO-conference-style protests going on down in Miami in a few weeks, and well, let's just say I'm glad I don't have ownership of any Starbucks or Gaps down around where the protesters will be.
Maybe it's to help reconstruct a democracy in Florida, or maybe Jeb Bush needs a new house. Or perhaps it may be to buy new voting machines, where all you have to do is go up to a touchscreen and press 'George Bush: Republican'. Don't worry if you slip and press for the Democrat's candidate by accident, the computer will know that you meant Bush, and adjust you're vote accordingly .
