Norway 1 - 2 Austria Haaland scored, but Austria held the Norwegians to only a single shot on goal and three shots overall. Really good result, especially with Romania and Northern Ireland playing to a draw in the other group match.
Austria 2 - 3 Romania Austria owned all the stats in this match, except the one that really matters. As good as the win in Norway was, this loss hurts. Romania now leads the group with 4 points; Austria and Norway are a point back.
Switzerland and Germany draw 1-1. Not too confident against Spain. Liechtenstein with the 0-2 win over San Marino.
Northern Ireland 0 - 1 Austria Romania 0 - 1 Austria Two huge away wins for Austria. Norway also won twice (at home) to keep pace on points. Austria's last two matches are at home, including the final one against Norway. Having already defeated the Norwegians, a draw might just be enough to win the group and advance.
Austria 2 - 1 Northern Ireland Two late goals turned around this match and put Austria on the brink of winning the group. Austria now leads second-place Norway by three points. Due to COVID cases, Norway didn't travel to play Romania. Norway would have to win that game as well as the final-round match in Austria to move into first. (Austria has the tie-breaker, having already defeated the Norwegians.) But Norway has quarantined their entire first team and will be sending a whole different set of replacement players to Austria. I wouldn't expect that group to get the result they need.
Austria 1 - 1 Norway Well, this one was a lot closer than the Austrians would have liked. Norway had to forfeit the missed match in Romania, but they still had a chance to take the top spot in the group with a two-goal win in Austria. The replacement squad got a goal an hour in but couldn't secure another. Austria then equalized in the 94th minute to win the group.
