A general bit of advice for you, as well as a reminder for our longtime posters: we're all here for the football. With that in mind, we here are taking a zero-tolerance policy towards expressions of racism, sexism, discrimination based on sexual orientation, xenophobia, ad hominem attacks, insults (towards a group of people, countries, or fellow posters) and trolling. Infractions will get you booked - and if you ask where was your warning, this is it. If you see a fellow poster insulting you or a part of your identity (race, sex, nationality, etc.)? Don't respond in kind - REPORT IT. It is the fastest way for us mods to handle the offending posts. So, with that said, good luck to both sides, and let's enjoy!
Japan dropped veterans and called up young players. Forwards Unfortunately Osako rarely scores but he is really irreplaceable for Japan. His aerial presence and ability to hold the ball are very good and that's why he has been a starter in Bundesliga, despite having his weak goal scoring record. His dirty job helps Japan's midfilders score goals and gives the team more posession. Midfileders I think they have the best attacking midfielders at the Asian Cup. Nakajima is the next big thing for Japan and is tearing up the Portugese league. He still plays for a small team but his market value is already 15M euros accordng to Transfermarkt. Minamino is currently the third best scorer in the Europa League. Doan is one of the best young talents in the Dutch league. The defensive midfield is a problem. Shibasaki has been benched in La Liga. A Lightweight passer like him has no place in Getafe. Endo is a very limited player and isn't good enough to replace retiree Hasebe who has been named in the Bundeslga team of the mid-season by Kicker. Japan has good prospects in that position but for now they have to rely on Endo. Defenders The talent level is head and sholders above the rest of Asia. All four expected straters have good experience in Europe. Nagatomo is a starter for Galatasary and has played the Champions League this season. He is still the best LB in Asia. Yoshida is the only proven CB in a top league at the Asian Cup. This time Japan didn't call up CB Shoji who was arguably the best Japan defender at the WC. He has just moved to the French league and skpped this Asian Cup to get used to the new environment as soon as possible. But Tomiyasu can make up for his absence easily. Tomiyasu was a teenager until 2 months ago but is already the highest valued CB in the Belgian league on Transfermarkt, which means he is big club material. Sakai is a beast right back and has been nominated for Ligue 1's team of the year by L'Équipe. Goalkeepers Average. I would pick Gonda as the first choice because he has the best penalty record among the 3. The biggest problem Japan has is that they will have by far the toughest road to the championship among the title contenders. 1R In-form Qatar or Saudi Arabia QF Australia SF Iran F South Korea or Saudi Arabia
min 26: Arslanmurad Amanov who plays for FC Bukhara (my city) in Uzbekistan just scored a goal to Japan. Japan 0-1 Turkmenistan
Turkmenistan was strong than I expected. Many countries seem to have made progresses. It was difficult beginning for Japan. But the competition is only starting.
come on uzbeks please dont choke. just dont lose to japan so japan can be sent to the bracket with south korea/australia/saudi hahahaha. and turkmenistan it would be nice if you could hold oman, of the 3 possibilities oman is the team i least want us to face.
damn uzbeks choked yet again... all they needed is a draw. they even went up 1-0... and then somehow they managed to concede not 1 but 2 goas in order to lose the match. geez. now we have to play japan + the ref in the seminals... that 2nd goal uzbekistan conceded could be the difference between a trophy and another semifinal penalty exit for us. ugh.
