Fine, but unless he does that in this game, I can see why people don't believe (I myself don't). He has to score twice and win to live up to his hype, and one of those goals has to be an instant classic with a long run. None of this PK or free kick after a BS call stuff. That's what will make me admit he is better than Ronaldo.

Right now, I could name at least 5 players better than CR7 at this tournament.

Beating France by 1-0 while completely outplaying their midfield and not allowing many goal chances was impressive to me.

Bah... 7 easy goals against a crying, confused defense. Was their 4-0 against us impressive? Pretty much the same scenario. We were focused on hair cuts and the Brazilians were focused on crying for neymar... The Germans were there to take advantage

I think he needs 3 goals, do 2 open heart surgeries, cure cancer and save a puppy from a burning building for him to be better than CR7. None of these on penalties.

You forgot, get Kate Upton as his second wife in an open marriage.

Every time I watch one of his games people talk like some awesome stuff is going to happen. Nothing ever does, just regular football. I want to see some breakout goals on the biggest stage from the magician.

Deserved Win, overall they beat France Brazil and Argentina when it mattered. Congratulation Portugal continues along as only losing to winners the last 3 tournaments

Messi winning the Golden Ball is an absolute joke.

Out of all countries, nobody has invested more into their youth academy than Germany, that being said it took them long enough to achieve this goal but surely they deserve it.

However, they've been fortunate enough to face and beat teams in the knockout stages that had significant casualties.

France without Ribery. Hard to imagine Ribs wouldn't have made a difference with the chances France got.
Brazil without Neymar. Their morale is completely shot without the guy.
Argentina without the lifeline to Messi (Di Maria) and an unfit Sergio Aguero.

    and thankfully its all over

I would say contrats to Germany, but than again Germany winning the World Cup isn't even an accomplishment. They been pumping so much money into it, are a massive rich country, its kinda just like "meh"

like I said a WC where all the good teams are subpar = Germany or Italy win.

Germany didn't win the World Cup, they bought it.

    Other countries better take notes.

If there was a foreign player limit in Portugal, the amount Porto and Benfica would magically invest in their young talent would be insane.

Hell, Porto might even start an academy instead of just having a youth team. Benfica might actually play their young talent.

Even if just those two teams did that, the national team would have so much more depth it isn't funny.

Congratulations to Germany they deserved it. They were the only nation, besides Portugal to consistently go far in tournaments only to be denied these bast 14 years. But they weren't to be denied this time around.

[sarcasm]but WOW Another AMAZING performance by the best player by far at the World Cup...none other then Leo Messi. And he got the player of the tournament award.

I finally see what so many of you were saying, he was so incredible. If he wasn't there Argentina would have surely been blown out 10-0.

But why is everyone especially TV broadcasters all up in arms over him winning player of the tourney? After all they have been praising his performances that were [/sarcasm] WAY WORSE then the one he had today.

Seriously line up and defend that God awful performance and tell me all about how game winners vs Iran merited a top 3 finish for golden ball, never mind player of the tournament. I can name 3 Germans, a dutch, a colombian and a different Argentine that deserved it more then him.

I actually thought Messi had his best game of the tournament; certainly best game since the group stage.

But in Extra Time he was invisible. Even in the 2nd half he wasn't nearly as dangerous as in the 1st.

But again, overall it wasn't special. I thought Lavezzi was better in his 60 (or however many) minutes given how much he contributed defensively.

Something was once again proven yesterday though: Palacio is shit.

It was better then other games but still nothing to write home about at all. I swear there was a point where a friend asked me in the first half around 35 minutes or so if Messi got hurt and came off because he hadn't seen him or heard his name in over 20 minutes.

Bought it? If you mean invested heavily on youth then ok. If you are talking about anything else you are flat out wrong.

I remember exactly what point you're talking about. Minutes 7 or 8 until 26 or 27 he didn't touch the ball. My brother and I were trying to keep track. He got going around that point. Then halftime came and that scuffed opportunity was the only thing worth remembering in the 2nd half.

By the way, Neuer is the biggest boss in the game. He had over taken Yaya Toure and Drogba for that honor.

    0-4 in knockout stage predictions.

I'm sorry Belgium, France, Netherlands, Argentina.

Starting to think it effected them supernaturally in a negative way =/

That's not what we were arguing. Messi was still better than Ronaldo in this tournament, decisive in many games, and definitely better than Cahill. That doesn't make him the best player of the tournament, but he was definitely in the top 3, after Muller and James. Maybe, Robben deserves to be there as well, but he was also shut down in many games. In fact, only James performed consistently well in every match. His only problem was not getting to the semis.

The day after the world cup is always one of my fav

its the day where we can go back to accepting we are a third rate footballing nation, and go back to following our liga sagres teams

now the angry white men will rejoice for four years as their beloved Doucheland has claimed the WC title. they will go back to watching NHL, MLB and NFL for the next couple years until Euro 2016 when the angry white man chest beating comes out again.

This WC is just proving that soccer now more than ever is dominated by sports science and athleticism. gone are the days where a bunch of players can learn the trade in the slums of Rio de Janeiro or Buenos Aires, rise to stardom, and lead their nation to glory.

now its all about getting thrown into some academy linked with your school like what happens in Germany , etc have special diet, scientists working on you

Germany even had a american fitness coach apparently, it says it all that they were in Brazil 10 days before the tournament started training and acclimatizing

this World Cup 2014 ought to be rebranded
