Just curious. I know that red, white, and blue are The Netherlands national colors, but what's the deal with red and white?

I thought the whole Orange thing came from Holland? Surprised to only see one club so far that had Orange...forgot their name right now, but a lesser known club...gimme a break im new here.

There are 2 clubs in the eredivisie that have Orange shirts: Volendam and RBC Roosendaal.

That PSV, Feyenoord and Ajax all have red and white is pure coincidence. They have had that always and it's just coincidence that the 3 teams that became the top 3 have the same colors.

originally they were hearts, and part of the coat of arms of Groningen (the province, that is..)

The frisians stole it and deformed the beautiful hearts into some...some...hideous......'thing' called a plompleblablabla....can't even pronounce it....

If you're curious as to why the BIG 3 in The Netherlands all have red and white, are you also curious as to why Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manure all have red too??? They are the biggest clubs in England, so it wouldn't surprise me if you asked yourself that question too.

Yeah..it makes sense in England. Red and White are the National colors of England. I thought Orange was Hollands colors?

Because orange is a hideous colour.

By the way, Holland's colours are red and yellow.

Orange is the name of the principality which gives the current dynasty their name. And the current family actually has to share the title, princes of Orange, with the German Hohenzollern heir, since they both have succesfully claimed lineage from William of Orange. But the Dutch throne is reserved for the Orange-Nassau line. Anyway, the way they're going now, a republic is a possibility.

The colours of the Netherlands are red, white and blue.

The reason why so many teams in Holland were red and white, is perhaps due to the English influence. Or because they're primary colours.

A lot of cities in England had a red and a blue team. And it seems the red teams have come on top.

    Good point ADO.

Also add AZ67 to that red-white list. If I'm not mistaken, they are the only team in recent decades to have won the Dutch title apart from the 'big' three.

Not quite: Groningen (the city) and Friesland used to be one territory, that is correct....But it was definately US in control mate! Simply because in those days, Cities controlled the economy and military....the only competitions came from the nobility and the church, which both had less influence here than in e.g. Holland or Flanders.

    check www.grunn.nl
history of the city, unfortunately it's only in dutch
