It seems like nobody wants to win the east. Who does everyone think will win it? Will that team have a chance of winning the cup once in the playoffs?
I wanna pick Chicago in the East but man, their players seem to drop like flies. That said, I just can't bring myself to pick the Crew or the MetroStars so I guess despite the injuries I'll still pick the Fire. As for the second question, I don't see the East making much noise in the playoffs. Obviously San Jose is one favorite to play in MLS Cup and I think the other spot will come down to Dallas, L.A. and Colorado (if their offensive guns click) and while I think they're a long shot, I wouldn't rule out a veteran KC team showing up in Foxboro either.
I am thinkin a pretty crappy Chicago team can still make it to the cup over a KC or Colorado. Dallas and LA (except for last year) have always been huge disapointments in the playoffs so why should this year be any different??
It all depends on how each team plays. Chicago lost Josh Wolff to injury, but are now starting Hristo Stoitchkov (2 goals in as many games, I believe). The MetroStars have a loaded offense, and isn't Clint Mathis coming back soon? The Crew can be one of the best in MLS when they're on top of their game (and when Andrulis doesn't hold them back), but they are quite the inconsistent bunch. Who will win the East? I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Quite simply, whoever gets hot in the last 2-3 weeks-- among Chicago, Columbus and the MetroStars. It's THAT close, where a good fortnight's play will win the division. Right now, I'd have to tip the Crew... as long as they can play a free style and Andrulis doesn't hold them back. And especially if they can rely on a healthy Brian McBride-- I'm not sure the Fire can rely on Wolff or Stoitchkov being 100% fit, nor can the Metros with regard to Mathis. The Fire certainly caught a bad break with Wolff, who had been playing at the top of his game. That might indeed doom their title hopes when all is said and done, IMO. Cheers, William
All right, all right, all right. There has been plenty of talk how Josh Wolff going down might be the last straw for the Fire and leaves them with no chance. Well that's not exactly true. Josh has been playing soft, backing off 50/50 balls, and generally being a pussy. This might have something to do with the the small injury that kept him out of the All-Star game but if that's so he shouldn't have been playing. His last couple of goals have been set on a silver platter for him (see first win over metros, second goal and goal against wizards.) If you were to ask me who i would rather see on the bench Wolff or Nowak the answer would be a no brainer, i'd rather have a healthy nowak than a healthy wolff.

We're so pathetic. My dream final would be Revs-Metros...or DC I can dream can't I? :sigh: Anyway, I think Chicago will go on to win the East barely edging out the Metros. As for the Cup, anything can happen. Obviously the West is favored but MLS is unpredictable and anyone can beat anyone on their best day. Despite having said that I think LA will finally win it.
It doesn't matter who'll win the east, when all is said and down, two west teams will be in the final, preferably San Jose and Dallas, and any eastern team will be out in the first round, without any fight.

And four of its last six matches are against eastern teams (two with NE and two with the Crew) + one with KC. (none of which have beaten the Fire this year)
What sucks is that the 3rd seed - likley #2 in the West will be in the same bracket as San Jose. (if I have the bracket format right) The 4th seed, likely #3 in the West will be in the opposite side, and able to avoid San Jose and its home field all the way until the final. It may be better for Dallas or LA to finish 3rd in the West.

1 vs. 8 and 4 vs. 5 will be in one bracket and 2 vs. 7 and 3 vs. 6 in the other. The top two teams in the league will be in opposite brackets under any circumstances.
