    Joy Fawcett.

Ever since Akers retired, penalties have been a USA problem.

Chastain took a few early in Heinrichs' tenure, but she is inconsistent.

Lilly also took a few early in Heinrichs' tenure, but when she went through that awful slump in 2000, that stopped.

Foudy looked poor in having to retake one against Nigeria. Besides, she alone of the Splendid Seven in '99 was not asked to shoot against China. Think there's a reason?

MacMillan is a good choice, but she's unlikely to be in the game when one needs to be taken.

Hamm never used to take them because of a lack of confidence.

Now she's taken two in this tournament.

The one against Nigeria was OK, helped by the goalie being utterly clueless as to which way to go.

But last night's was a harbinger of potential bad tidings. Hamm was not on her best game last night and taking the kick was not a step calculated to shake her out of it.

Wambach is a good PK taker, but you have to figure that most USA PKs will come after she's bludgeoned, like two have so far in this tournament.

    Why Fawcett?

Her kick against China in '99 was perfect.

She's one of the calmest players on the field. You need that calm when taking PKs.

    And she's so consistent.

If I were coaching, Fawcett would take the next USA penalty kick.

    Good suggestion on Joy.

I think they also may want to take a look at Boxx as well.

Mia HAmm's P>K against Norway was weak, what was she thinking?

Anyway, so far the best P.K taken by a US player during this WWC was by .......................WAMBACK.

I'd like to think that the #1 team in the world, with some of the best players in the world, in the largest tournament in the world, isn't really having issues with who can convert a PK.

Chastain? Inconsistent? Whadafook are you talking about?

She was roofing them in practice every day with her left foot before WC99 and the coaching staff noticed. Remember the first paragraph of SI's WC99 finals story?

Here's my PK5 if we ever need that lineup:

    Lilly
    Foudy
    Fawcett
    Hamm
    (and no. 5) ....
    The Wombat

Somehow I don't think we will ever need it.

I'm with you that Hamm should be the top 5 list, but I have to admit that I agree with the "spineless" description of her PK last night.
