I only read them if someone points out an interesting article or post. I hate the term "blog" and I can't get around it...
All of the above plus: http://www.wonkette.com, because she's damn funny. http://www.juancole.com is a very knowledgable Middle Eastern scholar. He often has really good analysis of Iraqi events based upon Arabic media. http://www.worldchanging.com Very cool blog on "green" technologies and sustainable development issues, which I've decided are the Mother of all policy issues for the forseeable future.
Media Matters Oliver Willis, who is blogging less than he did 6-9 months ago Instapundit, my token right-wing blog, whose quality has dropped considerably lately as he's drunk the Kool-Aid. Kevin Drum, who used to run Calpundit but has now moved to Wash Monthly
I read some of these. I read stevegilliard.blogspot.com. He references soccer aLOT, but he's a ManU fan. I read him more for fun than insight; his politics are rather rabid. I also read digbysblog.blogspot.com. He doesn't post alot, but it's usually good stuff.
My own, when I can be arsed to update it. And Dailykos, and Talking Points Memo. And just about anyone who puts a link to theirs in their sig on BS, 'cause I'm curious like that.
Ditto. Got nothing against them really, but certainly wouldn't bother to check them regularly. I like just finding links on here to particularly good points random bloggers make every once in a while.
Not a thing. I got mine through www.blogger.com., but there's no end of free blog sites out there. How do they make their money? I don't know, I don't care. Like mattie g, I had a thing against blogs for the longest time, for no other reason than an extreme aversion to the terms 'blog', 'blogging' and 'blogger'. I had a webpage at geocities where I was paying to put up some of my writing (very little) and other ********, but after a while I started to realize that what I was doing there was the same as what 'bloggers' were doing for nothing, and so I knuckled under. As of now, it's really just an experiment in how much solipsistic content and politically incendiary linkage I can wrap up together in one place. Or something like that.
http://alicublog.blogspot.com/ http://www.reachm.com/amstreet/ http://www.bartcop.com/ (EXTREMELY partisan) http://bodyandsoul.typepad.com/ http://corrente.blogspot.com/ (An Atrios spinoff) http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/ (One of the earliest and best Atrios spinoffs) http://www.juancole.com/ (specializing in Iraq's ongoing nightmare) http://www.maxspeak.org/mt/ http://dneiwert.blogspot.com/ (very good on domestic right-wing terrorism, and working hard to overturn Godwin's Law) http://www.pandagon.net/ (I think this is another Atrios spinoff) http://www.thepoorman.net/ (effin' hilarious) http://www.j-bradford-delong.net/movable_type/ (gets very wonky on economics, even more than maxspeak, and this week has had too many posts of his Berkeley class schedule - borrrrring) http://slacktivist.typepad.com/ (do not miss his ongoing, and sadly probably in abeyance, page-by-page critique of "Left Behind") http://tbogg.blogspot.com/ (as funny as Poor Man) www.dailyhowler.com EDIT - I used to read a bunch of right-wing blogs, but got sick of being called a traitor. Most conservative readers won't enjoy being called a fascist on these sites, I suppose. As a pro-Israel lefty, I stuck with Laurence Simon and Little Green Footballs much longer than I should have, before realizing they thought I was the enemy. (Again, most of the blogs I listed think you, conservative reader, are the enemy. So I'm being a big old hypocrite here.)
http://www.gawker.com http://www.gothamist.com http://www.cityrag.blog.com http://www.curbed.com http://www.taleoftwocities.org/ http://www.coolfer.com/blog/ Oh, you meant political blogs? I don't read them. They're mostly there to stir things up and reaffirm your own biases and have zero accountability - yes, I'm looking at you, Drudge. If they bring something newsworthy, I'll read it here or on traditional media. It's interesting to see what the blogosphere is talking about - it's a pen! no, it's a cheat sheet! What's that bulge? An iPod, of course!. Othewise, they're generally not worth bookmarking. Maybe the field will mature a bit more in a couple of years. We'll see. I did like the work photobloggers did during the RNC covering the protests: http://www.gothamist.com/archives/2004/08/31/photoblogger_infiltration_day_2.php, http://www.gothamist.com/archives/2004/09/02/photoblogger_fatigue_day_4.php
Pretty much all the blogs I read -- Atrios, Daily Kos, TPM, Oliver Willis, Pandagon, Steve Gilliard -- have been all covered upthread. Let me add this worthy addition: August J. Pollak's http://www.xoverboard.com/ for his comics and some darned good insights, including gems like this and this.
