Anyone been to UAE before? I'm thinking about going. Do I need any shots or pills for this? I think I can last a week or so without beer.

Don't worry about finding beer. I think it's legal there. I know I had quite a bit once in the Dubai airport.

Just make sure to drink lots of water. Oh yes, and make sure to tell everyone you're Canadian.

I spent a week there at a sailing event 5-6 years ago. Beautiful place, super people, sh!tloads of money there. Everything is new.

As I recall (I travel alot, so it all runs together) I didn't have to get any particular shots or whatnot to go there, and brew wasn't an issue where I was. It was relatively easy. Of course this was pre 9-11.

It is actually the Sin City of the Middle East.... try your luck at their lucky draw in the Duty Free Store. A friend of mine from Israel won two Porsche there.

Lived in Dubai for 9 years. No shots needed - sanitation is fairly good.

Excape Goat's and Sachin's assessments are fairly accurate. No need to worry about militant Islam fundamentalism... the order of the day over there is closer to hedonism.

Also, see the public announcement at http://travel.state.gov/uae_announce.html although this is for the IMF meeting this week in Dubai, they're just warning you about the hippies who go to disrupt those meetings.
