    Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Germany gave Turkey their first loss in their qualification for the U21 European Championship next year.

They bet the Turkish side with 1:0 in Leverkusen in front of a 90% pro-turkish crowd thanks to an 14th minute goal from Hanno Balitsch who took benifit of a mistake by turkish keeper Volkan who deflected a shot by Broich directly to the german team-captain who had no problem to make the goal.

Before this loss the turkish won 7 of their quali-games, while only giving up one draw in England.
They achieved this in the hardest of all groups including the sides of England and Portugal!

But this time they were bet by a better German side that were better on the fighting and tactical level and also had some great technical moments, especially by a very good Christian Tiffert and a suprisingly strong Thomas Broich.

The turkish had their best chances in the second half when Tim Wiese had to save the germans several times, especially when Halil Altintop went completely uncovert towards the german goalie, but Wiese was abled to stop him outside the penalty area.

On the german side, Hanke, Tiffert and the substituted Auer wasted the best chances to make it 2:0.

I just hope we can show such a great performance again in Istanbul on Thuesday.

My question.... the UEFA U-21 tournament is also the Olympic qualifiers, right?

    Hanke was the better striker.

The turkish defenders were abled to keep him from making one of his dangerous runs through the defense, but he did a lot of running for his team and made a great job when we tried to control the game after the 1:0. All in all a good game by him, even if he had no big chances to score.

Do you think things are looking good for us in terms of the striking position?

Kuranyi has already made the step into the national team and I believe he will stay there for some time keep improving.

Lauth and Hanke what is your opinion of them, can they be something special? Benjamin Auer has basically slipped into obscurity so I doubt he will be anything great in future.

Also what is your opinion of David Odonkor and Jermaine Jones? I've only seen David once and that was the last 5-10mins of the Bayern-Dortmund game last weekend. What about the other Greek-German striker that was in the Dortmund amateur squad a few seasons ago, I believe he's the same age as Odonkor... what happened to him?

    Thanks!

Lauth and Hanke are both very good. I mean look: Kuranyi, Lauth and Hanke are the top strikers for their clubs right now! Hanke is the only striker at Schalke that is NOT out of shape right now and Lauth celebrated a great comeback with his hattrick two weeks ago.

And Auer? Man he so svckes now.......
If I think two years back from now and remember the last U20 WC, where he scored 5 goals in 4 games......
    He wasted his talent completly.

Odonkor is the fastest player I EVER saw, but just loses his head too often. He is more an Giggs-type of player. Very fast, good technik, but not so dangerous for the opposing goal. He is more an assistent.

The greek-german player you mean is Ioannis Masmanidis and is in the roster for the U20 WC, but he is more an offensive midfielder.

The most promising forward-talents, that are not known very much yet, are Erdal Kilicaslan and Mario Gomez and Sebatian Kneissl.

Oh, I forgot Krontiris and Schied, who are the top-scorers of Aachen and Osnabrueck in the second league.
    Both are just 20yo.

Schied has 7goals in 12 games and is on loan from Rostock.
Krontiris has 5 goals in 12games and is on loan from Dortmund.

Schied will probably play in Turkey!

I hope he will score. He can give every defense a hard time.

He definitly deserves to get make his U21-debut.

Maybe he should play for Hanke, so that we have a faster and more skillful striking-duo.

Hamit Altintop is quoted with the words:"We were impressed how much they could do with the ball and how they controled the game"

That makes me proud a bit....

But with his performances this season he is just striker number four behind Lauth, Hanke, Krontiris and shooting-star Schied.

He had more than one chance during the qualification, but didn´t take them.....

He even looks as if he has more weight now than one years ago. He is overweighted and he won´t make it anywhere if he doesn´t work on it.

Oleeeeeee, wir fahn in puff na bazelona, ole, ole!!!!

A big hug and a very big sorry to Benni Auer.

He wasted his first two big opportunities, but made the goal with his knee!

    Great, Wonderful, Tremendous!!!

The turks dominated, but had no cahnce till this lucky-23m-goal by Hamit Altintop, but after the goal we took control and had 4/5 chances till the equalizer in extra-time(90+2).

Again Tiffi with an excellent game.

Hey we reached the European Championship!!

For the first time since 1988!! And without Kuranyi and Hinkel! These guys are great!

    @ soccerfreak

Soory, but I can´t see where the Turks dominated the game. It was the other way around. They got one lucky shot and 3 chances they didn´t make. Compared to our dominance...

    Congrats to our U21 team!

I wonder waht all the turks say now, because alot of them were expecting a huge victory against our team which they consider doesn´t have a future at all.

To get a draw in this kind of hostile environment is incredible for the U21 squad. Plus soccerfreak made a good point, there was no Kuranyi and Hinkel!

Maybe Hamit Altintop will reconsider and decide to play for Germany

it takes a big person to apologize. and i'm not one to say i told you so...,but i think benni is still someone to watch for the future (ok i am one to say i told you so!). big goals in big games, that guy. congrats to the german U-21s...it was a just result, IMHO, turkey pressured a lot toward the end but germany really seemed in control of the match.

I said: control, but no chances. And thats how it was! They had most of the ball, but just weren´t abled to create anything.

Rudi Voeller who watched the game in the stadium together with Michael Skibbe was extremely impressed by Phillpip Lahm, just like anyone who saw the two games, or any other game of him this season.
It looks as if he will be the next one to make his debut for our NT and I´m sure he will finally solve our problems on the left defensive side.

He was GREAT. He is just 170cm high, but has tremendous aerial skills and gets nearly every header,he is fast as hell and has more talent than any of the turkish players. He was running circles around them!

Go Phillip!!! I´m sure he will be a starter for us in the EURO2004, and he is only 19 yet!

I know Erdal is with Bayern amateurs and Kneissl is at Chelsea but I have no idea who Mario Gomez is?

    Any info?

I would like to see Lahm play at Euro2004 but I have a feeling Voeller will opt to keep him for later.

Mario Gomez is 18, plays for VfB Stuttgart and usualy partners Erdal in the U19 NT, despite being one year younger. That is also the reason why he doesn´t play at the U20 WC this month, while many of his former teammates do.

In his last games he played as an offensive midfielder.
This year he made his first appearances for The B-team of Stuttgart in the third league.

He reminds me of Kevin Kuranyi in some parts, cause he is the same height and also very good with the ball and in the air.

Another interesting young striker is Lukas Podolski, who plays for 1.FC Koeln and made his first league debut this weekend as starter!!! against the HSV.
He is also 18yo like Gomez and plays for the U19 NT, where scored 17goals in 19games for them.
He has a very good shot and is very fast.
