Newcastle came alive for a short while after the goal, but soon afterwards it became the Chelsea show again. Crespo makes it 2-0 in the 38th.

I didn't watch the match, I was only paraphrasing ONE in another thread. Whether Mutu took a dive or not, I've yet to see, but once again, I was only paraphrasing ONE. Did I take his word for it? Sure, only because I have a little bias. Guilty as charged.
You're right - it wasn't a penalty. I tend to think it may have been a sending off, however. O'Brien was the last defender as they ran because the other defender, (Bramble?), was slightly behind them - only about a foot or two but behind them nevertheless. I must say I did feel sorry for yer man there, Robson - Got a lot of respect for Sir Bobby. What the hell's the story with Robert? I've seen him absolutely red-hot sometimes and sometimes it's like he's just not interested. Sir Bobby deserves better...

ahh...and chelsea fans have such a proud and noble history, dont they? its good to see being stateside hasnt made you any less mouthy and arrogant as its apparently your london birthright. for those of you who didnt see the incident it was as follows: obrien trailing mutu in a dash towards the toon end. obrien touches mutus shoulder (outside box). touching ceases. mutu gets inside box a few steps later and inexplicably goes to ground. penalty called. red card obrien. and then as clan blue said, it was well over as a football contest. by all means find the footage and watch it for yourself, and youll see why it is that not even the most dyed-blue chelsea filth will say it was a "penno". dirty, dirty chelsea....
Tsk...tsk....i sence a strong feeling of anger... Anyways, i take back the comment about class as that was a generalisation that was undeserved. I happen to have known a few geordies that were okay. I served with some in NI wheni was stationed in the lurgan barracks. I happen to think that SBR is a gentleman and Shearer is the complete professional footballer, a role model to all young and aspiring lads (and lassies) You, on the other hand, fit the comment quite well btw...the linesman said he flagged him for a "professional" foul. He pulled him back as he was going to go one on one with the keeper. End of.
Funny, I don't remember any pieces of paper running around out there. I would have thought Barca and Inter have proved over the past decade that checks just can't play football. It wasn't a penalty, but certainly was a professional foul. The game was over by that point anyway - you lot were shambolic. It happens to everyone one day. As for "dirty dirty chelsea", since when did we become Arsenal? One disputed penalty (which we hardly needed) and suddenly we're dirty? You can keep talking I guess, but those five goals we put past your keeper speak a bit louder. On a side note, too bad for SBR.
That's not correct. What actually happened was that O'Brien pulled Mutu back by pullinh his arm but it was outside of the box - he didn't just touch him as you state. Then, as they enter the box the pulling ends but Mutu goes down anyway. However, from the camera angle we have it is almost impossible to tell whether there has been any other contact, i.e. if O'Brien has come across the back of Mutu's trailing leg as he runs. The referee is directly behind the incident and so would find it easy to say if the latter occurred but the same angle would make it very difficult to tell whether the initial contact happened inside or outside of the box - but the assistant ref indicated there was contact inside the box. This rather reminds me of the penalty in the 1998 WC given to Norway when Junior Baiano grabbed Tor Andre Flo's shirt. Both the video shot angles didn't show it and it was left to a cameraman's pictures to clear Flo of diving a few days later. Having said all that I freely admit I don't know if he dived or not but none of it alters the fact that it was almost certainly a sending off offense according to the rules and, let's be honest, it's not as if O'Brien hasn't done it before, is it...
