Any other fisherfolk amongst the Big Soccer Nation? It's high time we had our own thread! My name is Scoey, and I'm a fishaholic. I'm such a fishaholic, I watch those dorky bass fishing shows on ESPN. I grew up fishing in Alaska, Washington, and Oregon, and I personally think there's no finer way to spend a fall day than on the river, soaking up the rays, watching the leaves drift by, catching salmon. Most of my fishing experience is with trout and salmon, but I'm curious about other types of fishing in other parts of the world. One of my most memorable fishing days was spent on a local lake, catching and releasing huge carp on worms, Andy Griffith style, baby. I've heard carp taste pretty good when cooked right, but, then again, so does tofu. Heading down to the Oregon Coast in a few hours to rip some lips. Hope this thread is populated by other piscatorial pursuers by the time I get back.
Man, the Oregon Coast! You b*stard, going out there without us! I just fished the Wood River in RI on my lunch break. No bites but damn it was beautiful. Off to head home. More later...
Sweet....living on the East coast there are all kinds of fresh water opportunities from the Shenandoah in the Blue Ridge mountains on down. But I've always been a salt water fisherman at heart. The Chesapeake Bay and the Outer Banks are where I do most of my fishing. Stripped Bass are usually my target. Yellow Fin Tuna when I charter out of Oregon Inlet in North Carolina.
Unfortunately I had to give up fishing when my good ol' college buddy George moved back to Daly City, Cali in 2000. We did it pretty redneck style too. We'd tool around in his lil' rinky dink aluminum boat with a stubborn outboard motor on Little Camas Reservoir a couple of hours away from here. We mostly caught trout. Man I remember one morning we were out there and as soon as your hook hit the water...FISH ON! There are also some small ponds several minutes away from my house that I use to fish on the weekends but I sucked there. The fish in those ponds were real finicky. My brother on the other hand...he's a wannabe pro bass fisherman. He gets a new Skeeter bass boat every other year. He has several sponsors like Coke and a local tire store. He's taken Idaho dignataries, like governors and mayors, out fishing. Hell he's even fished with Karl Malone (Karl's wife is from here and he visits every now and then). That SOB is HARDCORE!!! My boss and his lobbyist buddies are serious fly fisherman. That is the one genre of fishing I don't think I can comprehend. It looks pretty, but I think that type of fishing requires tremendous patience and knowledge. One of my earliest memories of fishing was fishing with the neighbors and they did it old school Mexican style. Fish line wrapped around empty beer/pop cans with homemade sinkers. And by golly that setup really worked. We would fish the Snake River and catch catfish up the wazoo. Several weekends ago I went on a backpacking trip up into the Pioneer Mountains in central Idaho and several of the guys brought fishing poles. We camped at a lake named Round Lake and were able to land small trout and Graylings.
