Ireland may have just shot themselves in the foot after blowing the lead. I don't see them getting any more points now. But we shall see.
Well it was a snore-fest football match. I would not be surprised if both these teams do not go through but they do still have a chance to prove themselves. However, I was more convinced by Ireland than I was by Sweden if I had to choose, but it was an incredibly soft, uninspiring and boring game. If these teams want to succeed later on, they will need to be much more ruthless than that whether it is defensively or offensively.
Of course that explains the amount of shots on target Sweden had. Oh wait they did not have any lol but no it was really quite bad. However I have seen worse performances, such as the way Slovakia performed and of course we can not forget 7-1 in the World Cup. Ireland performed decent though, but that own goal was very unfortunate for Clark. However the main thing is these teams can still improve and they have time to improve for it is much easier to redeem yourself with this third placed team system around than it used to be.
I hate to say this but I have a feeling Ireland and Sweden may have helped eliminate themselves here... I don't really think either side will beat Belgium or Itlay which they'll have to do now... even 3 draws may not be enough to go through to the knockout stages. This result helped neither teams....
I agree. That performance from Ireland and Sweden did show that Belgium and Italy are quite a bit better than them, and like I said I really would not be surprised if Ireland and Sweden were knocked out by being beaten by both Belgium and Italy after watching their stand-off, especially by Italy who are proving to be Euro contenders along with Germany, Spain and France.
I can see either Ireland or Sweden getting a point or two off Belgium or Italy, but they'll need a win somewhere to progress. I think this will be one of the 2 groups where the 3rd place team doesn't progress. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
Probably right, but still worth a try right? Plus at least I am not copying and pasting the commentary in there anymore, so keeping the initial message short and sweet. Because Long plays the lone forward role pretty effectively (Walters isn't really a second forward in my opinion) and Keane is no longer mobile enough to pull it off. I see a few of us didn't enjoy this game, but I do enjoy games like these. Usually get to see first hand players you would otherwise not be able too (i.e. Hendrick and Forsberg were impressive, but I don't watch the Championship of 2.Bundesliga). The game itself was also interesting because as soon as the Irish scored the Swedes finally woke up, complete momentum swing.
If we beat Sweden and Belgium beat Ireland which is probably what will happen, then we will have top of the group wrapped up, and we might give some other players playing time in our last game against Ireland.
