It's a late game, so I don't know how well a viewing party will work out buuuut...

    Thursday, Sept. 6 (this Thursday)
    DC @ Chivas
    10:30pm
    ESPN2

Because it's a Thursday night I'd suggest Bottoms Up so we can have Pedro as our bartender, but due to the lateness of the game, I don't think that would work. Home Team Grill or Penny Lane? I'm voting for HTG just because I feel like it's a safer night walk/bike for me than heading downtown. Let me know if anyone wants to join, otherwise I'm not going to go and I'll just watch it at home/at another bar. Word!

    As far as carpooling goes...

    Sunday, Sept. 9
    DC vs. NE Revs
    3pm
Comcast SportsNet/TeleFutura (for those not making the game)

I plan on leaving Richmond at 9am. Anyone that wants to come with me and give me gas money is welcome. Oh, that's also my birthday so if anyone else would like to drive, please let me know! Tailgate starts at 11.

    Carpooling/viewing, part 2

    Wednesday, Sept. 12
    DC vs. RSL
    7:30pm
Comcast SportsNet (for those not making the game)

Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to do this one. :( I had originally counted on the game against RSL being at the end of September (that game is now against Guadalajara) and made arrangements with my professor about missing class (ie I lied to him and made up an excuse). I can't really change that now, especially after a long weekend. So, due to school and work on the 12th, you all are on your own for this one. :) Oh, and because of work, I probably won't be able to do any sort of viewing party either, so again, you're on your own. I know you boys can take care of it!

    Let's get this planning going!!

Thanks dcLIZunited for getting this started...

I think if the Bottom's Up option isn't an option, Penny Lane is our choice. I'm happy to call them on Tuesday and ensure we can watch the entire match and report back to the thread. Pedro, let us know what's up with Bottom's Up. Ha, that sounded funny.

I'm taking the train up for the 9/9 game so no carpool for me. $46 round trip if anyone wants to join me. Train leaves at 8:00am and arrives at 10:45am. Returns at 7:30pm and arrives at 9:45pm.

RSL I'm definitely going up for so lets talk about carpool options.

Charlie is the manager this Thursday night and he'll stay open til 2am as long as we have paying customers, the other managers not so much. I'll definitely have the game on as well as $2.50 high lifes, not great but pretty good for how our prices normally are. It'll be tough, being so late on a weeknight, but I'll be there regardless and the game will be on. Also, we're close to getting our 52" flat screen mounted in the inside upstairs bar, should be sweet

    Pedro

ps: talked to Mac today, who owns/runs/bartends McCormack's Irish Pub in the bottom, said he will put on a game for us ANYTIME we want it and that he would even personally come in and open the place for us if its an early game, they open at 5pm daily and close at 2am. This could be the ultimate DCU viewing party bar in Richmond that we've been talking about getting for a while. word

    So, what are we thinking?

Bottoms Up, Penny Lane, or Macs? The game is Thursday, let's decide soon so an email can go out!

I've talked with Pedro about BU, and there's a chance that we won't get to see the entire game there due to when they close. Should we risk it, or maybe just do somewhere else? Or maybe start at BU and move to Macs once we get kicked out?

I've accepted the fact that no one wants to watch the game in a convenient biking/walking location...you all must have off-street parking! :p

I would say at this point that Mac's sounds like we'll get the game till the end. With it starting so late and only the three of us talking about a viewing party, I have a feeling it won't be more than 4 or 5 of us there (no offense to anyone, it's a late game). Could be a good opportunity to test the waters. I'm up if you guys are.

I'm definitely down. I found another Richmonder wandering around the Barra boards, so hopefully he'll also be in, and there's a chance that someone from DC will be around. So...Macs, 10:30? Pedro - want to talk to him and make sure this is good?

I have got family in town. So I won't be staying out late for this one. Also have to drop family off at the airport on Sunday so I will probably drive up on my own leaving Richmond Airport around 10:30. If someone needs a ride (either to the airport or the game) let me know.

Pedro we will probably swing by for dinner on Thursday, see ya then.

Great news. Definitely will see everyone down there. Whoever gets there first, just find Mac it sounds like! :D Will be nice to watch it on the wide screen instead of one of the small TVs at Penny Lane (no offense to Penny Lane, they've been more than great to us over the years).

Looks like I will be in town tomorrow night, staying somewhere off the Midlothian Turnpike. Ok, not to sound completely dumb but is Mac's at 12 N. 18th Street? Sorry, I'm just somewhat familar with Richmond and less with things in Shockoe.

McCormacks Irish Pub is at 12 N. 18th Street, a few doors up from the corner of 18th and E. Main.

I just read this on the main DC board...the broadcast on Comcast for this Sunday's game and the 9/23 game against Chicago will not be aired live, they will be taped and showed on a delay. The 3pm live game will be aired taped at 7pm. Anyone not going up for the game, make sure you take note and don't get too stressed when it's not on at 3!

Also, last call for riding up to the game with me Sunday...I'm still driving by myself. I'm leaving Richmond at 9am that day.

Tickets are available at the tailgate and at the B gate entering the stadium if you plan on sitting with the Barra. If you plan on sitting elsewhere, you can buy tickets at the main gate.

    Re: Richmond: viewing party 9/6 & carpool 9/9, 9/12

I'm definitely down with Macs being the official Richmond DCU bar. Mac was awesome last night with accommodating us and, of course, the round of shots! I sent him a message on Myspace this morning thanking him, and he said any game that's on he'll save that back room for us.

The next away game will be 9/23 (Sunday) at Chicago. This is a 3pm game on Comcast, but like I said in another post, it's my understanding that it won't be aired on tv until 7pm. Macs again for this one?? Pedro??

Also...anyone not going up for the Wednesday game this week? If I get out of work in time, I'd love to watch it (or at least part of it - it's a 7:30 game). It's on Comcast, which I think my work gets, if anyone wants to come watch on a tiny crappy screen, haha. Otherwise if I get out early, where might I be able to meet other people to watch the game? Macs for this one as well, or just watch it on your own time at your own location?

So what is the carpool situation? Being somewhat directional challenged it might be best for me to get a ride with someone the first time.

It's too late to join a carpool...I needed to know by yesterday at the latest and I've already made plans for dinner in DC with my family before heading back to Richmond. The only other Richmonder that I know is going up is taking the Amtrak train. The directions are incredibly easy though - 95N, continue on 395 toward Washington (you can't miss the signs), take the bridge across the Potomac and stay in the right hand lane (don't go into downtown), stadium exit is on the left hand side immediately before the freeway ends. There will be some signs. Parking is $12 at the gate, our area is on the left hand side as soon as you enter the lot, then tickets will be sold from Oscar's truck at the tailgate.
