Naldo went after the referee at the end of the game. I saw the yellow card, but Naldo kept at it. Cha-ching!!! OK, we played like a team missing four starters. Tyrone Marshall did well for LA. He's a physical presence that we are missing on defense. Parkhurst is getting beat up every game. That has to take a toll. Twellman did not have a great game, but he didn't stop playing. Great service from Franchino on that final free kick. Nodded down by TnT to Joseph who pushed it to Dorman, both onside. Can you give three assists on a play?
Official scoring is Twellman to Joseph to Dorman. On a sidenote, Smith played considerably better. But he needs to keep it up, play a little more meaner. Twellman had a hard time getting balls cause he had 2 guys on him. If Smith can make space for him, both of their days will go a lot better. But good work, I hope he keeps it up.
It was really a great flick from Joseph, and Twellman totally made up for his prior mistakes with that perfect header to his feet. Good stuff.
I was disappointed in Riley tonight. It seemed like every touch and every pass was awful. Twellman should've finished the breakway hands down. He did redeem himself though at the end. The Revolution managed to pick up a point at a place where LA hasn't lost all year with three top starters gone (boy, did that ever show). And the point came in the dying seconds of a match where it looked like it was lost in the final minutes after a solid defense effort. Good teams manage to find ways of getting results. That's a positive any Revs fan should take away from tonight.
The REVOLUTION players have HUGE, BRASS BALLS. Any team that has scored as many decisive late goals as this team is special. YES, they had a crappy game---but they got a point on the road---in the house of a team that prides itself that no one wins or gets points in their house. ----AND---THEY DID IT WITHOUT 4 INTERNATIONALS who are off with their national teams. I thought Riley played pretty well tonight. He tracked back a lot and won quite few balls. He and Dorman did a lot of covering for Heaps, who was absent for long stretches. The great mystery of the night was why was Leonard being double teamed so often? He did extremely well considering...but who was open that should have been showing for the ball? It was a pretty evenly played game. Hartman's saves kept the Revs from going in to the final minutes sitting on a lead. All in all a very satisfying result.
it was a funny game, we missed some good chances, gave the ball up WAY too many times, and still steal a last minute (second) point.
You know, we all might think that our "late season run revs" are in the past now, but really its really just mutated into "last minute revs". We got a point in a booming HDC and while its not the soccer showcase that MLS would have loved it was thrilling in the last 10 minutes. Ok i'm going to be the one to burst the bubble of the excitement of that goal. I don't think we deserve it, I'm happy of course, but with our nats gone we don't function. What color jersey were we wearing, cause I thought it was white, but apparently it was gold. only in the final 10 minutes could we start finding our players. It looked like every one of our passes was a give away, and when i say every, i truly think that I mean every single pass. It was very annoying. Twellman's time off showed, his touches where simply decent, and on a good day he would finish that 1 on 1 chance. And not to turn this into "Chicago-Revs Pregame" But we have no chance in winning that match. We won't have (Inhale) Dempsey, Noonan, Ralston, John, and now Joseph. I can't even start to think of a line up. And of course, I'll be in Chicago that weekend so i'll be at that match, but don't look for me cause i'll be on my knees praying for those 2 hours. I'm going to ask this question for the slightest hope of a good answer... Is there any chance of Arena releasing any of our three guys? we are in a tough spot here, and just one would help so so so so so much. We didn't earn 1 point, but we did steal 2. RRRREV IT UP Edit: One more thing, How Fing unfair is it to let FCD win the all star coaching staff. I mean when you look at, the field was tilted, hell almost flipped over, in favor of Chicago who have play 18 matches, 18!!!!!!! (They didn't get it but still!!!). I think they should take only the first 15 results from each team, or maybe points per game, i don't know, I'm not as mad that Colin Clark and not Steve Nicol will be the coach, but mad at the way it was decided. SN should have the privilege of coaching the all stars, and we all know it!!!!
Yes you did and off the galaxy too, way to go, great finish to the game. It looked like Chinchilla made a bad defensive mistake on your goal, all he had to do was take two steps forward and he would've played two revs offside before the ball ever got there. And it was great to see naldo get a yellow after the whistle blew, what a loser Shame that Nicol didn't get to coach the all stars, I was rooting for him.
Kudos to a never-say-die effort. I've always thought highly of Nicol, and this game proves it. It's more than Xs and Os, which I'm sure he knows. I agree with you that it should be the first 15 results, but its not unfair that CC is the all-star coach, if anything we had the toughest schedule in the league for the first 15 games playing on the road just about every weekend. Cant wait to play you guys in a couple weeks, good result against the gals tonight
I don't necessarily think that it's unfair that Colin Clarke is the coach (would've preferred Nicol, but at least it's not Sarachan -- I think we can all agree on that). But I think that it's a bit of a stretch saying that Dallas has had the toughest schedule. Yes, you've played a lot of games on the road (10/16), but the Revs have played over half of their games on the road this season too (8/15) and if you compare the competition, the Revs, IMO, have had the harder go at it. you definately make solid points, and our schedules are definately comparable in strength. It wouldnt be an injustice for either coach to get the position. But it is nice to finally get some honor
I picked the wrong side of the field to see this match. I got a good close up of TnT flubbing the 1v1, some faux blond kid scoring for the gals, and a long distance view of another St.Dorman miracle. Still, it was great to hear the absolute stunned silence of the home crowd pierced by the screaming cheers of my brother and me. I did see one other person there who was a revs fan so I knew I had back-up it case we hurt peoples feelings.
Congratulations you guys! I must admit I changed channels after the Galaxatives scored in the 88th minute but when I checked the final score---it was 1-1! Way to go! I was hoping you'd beat them silly but, 1-1 is good.
Of course Nicol/Mariner are better than Clarke. MLS is just trying to show their appreciation to Clarke for keeping Dallas up there. Nicol will get his after winning MLS cup.
I'll take the draw and a point under any circumstances when playing the Galaxy at home. That being said, the Revolution will need to play better when they travel to Chicago next weekend: we're even on points, but we have three games in hand on them, and this is a crucial game if the Revs are to put some distance between themselves and their Eastern Conference challengers. It won't be any easier with Joseph out next week. The Magpie
Given the Revs' putrid performance, its hard to argue with this however, the Gals did not exactly put on a performance of the 'beautiful game" either. I thought I was watching a reserve match for much of the evening. How many turnovers were both teams guilty of ? It really should have been a 0-0 draw since neither team looked as if they had any personnel on the field that were capable of threatening the other teams goal. Could Pando have missed any more shots by any wider a margin ? The last several games, the Revs really have not looked sharp. Yet we've managed to get a result in all of them. The mark of a good team... That being said.... Reis had a typically strong game. He controls his box very well and seems to communicate with the D flawlessly. He made at least two bad distribution decisions, neither of which cost him - this is unusual. No chance on the goal...Parkhurst and Jay were ball watching while the person covering the crosser (I think it was Latham (or was it Joey ?)) just gave him way too much space. Our midfield played well in spurts...too bad it was only around 1/3 of the total minutes played. Someone mentioned how disappointing Riley's game was...I concur - he played like crap. Marshall Leonard wasn't much better...his crap was of a different variety. What is it about taking people on with him ? Its like he pauses and waits for the double team before he goes forward. Typical Leonard - make a terrific defensive play then immediately turn the ball back over trying to beat two defenders in the middle third of the field. I am not convinced Smith is going anywhere but back to school teaching. He did do well on some balls with back-to-goal but he is no threat to score and could not make any attacking passes or beat anyone 1 v 1. Why is he always falling ? Twellman will be fine when he gets his game conditioning back and has at least one more offensive threat out there with him so he isn't double or triple teamed the whole game. I thought Edozien was a better forward than Smith. Faster and tougher physically. I hope he gets the start next weekend. BTW - we are screwed next weekend. We may see the return of the dreaded 4-5-1 hoping for the 0-0 tie.
This game look a lot like the last DC game, except that the Gals were barely better than the Revs throughout. The constant pressing by LA worked pretty well, especially since our players struggled most of the night to get open. Too many times we were caught in posession with nobody available for a pass.
Definitely a dark cloud over the Rev's great finish. That was a "soft" yellow Joseph got. So who will fill his spot next week? I wouldn't be surprised to see the Rev's go to a 4-4-2, slide Joey into center back, drop Marshall to outside back, and put Latham as a fourth mid?
I only saw the last 20 minutes and it was pretty clear neither team was playing very 'pretty' soccer. However, we were able to find a way to take a point on the road against a very tough opponent. That constitutes a level of success. For LA's goal, it appeared to be a quick counter right after our corner where Heaps made a try at the near post. He was running back to get back on D, but somehow either he stopped, or the ball just plain beat him downfield, and neither Riley nor Parkhurst backed him up. Near the end of the game on a quick counter like that, I have a hard time blaming Jay....unless he got back (making Parkhurst and Riley not worry about covering for him) and then stopped tracking his player. We had enough back that Parkhurst could have drifted over and covered for him. Great goal on our part...man what heart by this Revs team. Kudos to Twellman for putting that ball at Shalrie's feet rather than making a go at goal, that was a free header. And a great layoff by Shalrie, that ball got into him a little deeper than you want and he was still able to make the play. Never say die! It is great to see us missing so many starters and still maintaining that attitude - a huge asset that. I can remember the days of Paul Keegan who definitely had heart, but we now have a bunch of that to go along with a fair amount of skill as well. I agree with Chadwell that Joey goes central, Marshall is left D and Latham gets our left midfield start...though I wonder if Smith will go there instead? Depends on who SN sees as being the more defensively capable.
