Lee Barnard is scoring alot for the reserves. Clive Allen is the manager of the reserves, he knows how to score goals
The most important part: "All three goals were headers and all three delivered on a plate by some superb wide play" Wing play that has been completely lacking from the first team. I really hope Yeates gets another go, he has great talent and how can he possibly do less on the wing than Brown or Jackson who have no creativity at all? Or the shockingly out of form Simon Davies?
We really need a big centre forward to use the the wings properly unless he sticks with Freddie but i'm not sure how much confidence Jacques has with him. The crosses will need to be perfect for Jermaine or Robbie to get their heads on them I still believe in Davies although he has not really played well since we went to the Cup Final. That season he was brilliant.
Hate to say this but if he gets pushed too quickly we end up with another Jackson where the fans boo him and he loses his confidence and never recovers. I would certainly like to see him on the bench at some point this year though and see if we can ease him into the first team by the end of the year if we can't bring in anyone to do the job in Jan. Also it is hard to do anything on the wings when our attacking player-Jackson/Davies/Atouba are left out to dry without any overlapping runs from the full backs. It is tough enough in this league to get past one defender but when there is absolutely no threat from the full backs it turns into two defenders crowding our man off the ball. I would doubt that the reserves have the same defensive mentality that the first team has at the moment so it seems like they would help our attacking options when in reality they wouldn't be able to do much differently.
The fullbacks really do need to push forward. Edman could definetly go forward but I'm not sure that Pamarot could move forward. But it would be interesting to see what he is like moving forward because Jacques has definetly told the fullbacks to stay back.
Edman was awesome in Euro 2004 when he pushed forward. He has a great left foot on him and the commentators mentioned his 'cross of the tournament' which setup a goal for Sweden. Not sure about Pamarot. He's a big chap so I think he'd at least put himself about and maybe draw players out of position allowing nippy little Simon Davies to take advantage of the space. I think Pamarot could probably put a decent cross in too.
Pamarot does have a good right foot on him, saw him score a cracking goal for Nice and he said he was looking to have a pop or two this season once he gets more confident with the team. He has said before though that he sees himself ending up as a centre back. He's not particularly mobile so I would agree with him, but he can do a job for us until Ifil is mature enough to play more games. We really need the 3 points against Charlton. Lose that and it will be effectively a crisis and the team could be below Crystal Palace....
The Charlton game is a big game. The players need to keep their mind on this game & not look ahead to the Arsenal game which could be difficult to do. We also have the game against Burnley after the Charlton game which is as important to us
When is Kelly coming back to fitness?? I haven't heard a thing about him in a while and was wondering if he could take over for Pamarot when he needs a rest. Charlton is a huge game to get back on track and hopefully score more than 1 goal in a game.
Kelly played for our Under 21's in October (vs France). I believe he's fit unless he got injured in that match.
I agree completely. I've never been a fan of either Brown or Jackson. I just don't think Brown has the skills, and have said that from the very beginning. He's a reserve/utility player, not a first teamer IMHO. Jackson is a little creative but slow, poor defensively, and in the end, doesn't look like a contributor in the long term. Unfortunately, these things have been quite clear to me for a long time ... but they're not clear to Spurs yet it seems. I'm a huge Simon Davies fan, but he had a very poor season last year, and this year he's clearly not back to his best form. I think this is our biggest hole, because in a team that lacks attacking creators, Davies should be the focus of our offense ... and he's not getting it done. With Sean Davis out for a while, we'll get the chance to see what Michael Carrick can do. I like Carrick, and hope he really shines, but if he doesn't, I think he may not get as good an opportunity to make his mark later in the season. If he spends the season largely on the bench, he may well get huffy. January we need to concentrate on finding good wing midfielders. -Digital
Michael Brown played well at right midfield against Birmingham early in the season. He is not a right midfielder but gave us alot of energy which our wingers have not given us yet this season.
Yeah I was there for that match. He didn't do much in the first half but I think he was just told to run at them in the second and he did really well. He just put himself about a bit more and put in some good crosses.
