I gotta agree a bit with Kev. I did the easy thing, as I do on most websites I want to learn more about, and clicked on the "About BigSoccer." All that gives is the list of people who are important to running the BigSoccer business. I think there should be a mission statement/philosophy, FAQ, short history, etc. on the "About BigSoccer" link.
I read the Customer Service forums regularly and don't remember any talk of getting rid of the [R] rule.
It's been essentially gotten rid of. Individual forums can agree to use it, but mods are not being asked to strictly police it on a global basis, IIRC.
In the Korea forum. There seems to be little notice or any explanation at all by the moderators for most of their actions (editing a post or closing a thread) and it seems like they are deciding on things with their own personal feeling/opinion instead of the feeling of the forum. I understand that BS is cracking down racism and general stupid comments, but BS Korea has almost turned into a pg forum and random banter that cannot really be easily determined(but clearly assumed by a moderator or an agitated member) as racist or stupid, gets immediately edited or has the thread closed own. A thread should be allowed to live until there is clear stupidity or clear racism regardless of reputation of a poster(unless they are clearly trolling)
The one active mod 12thwarrior is losing it with deleting posts, closing threads for reasons that have nothing to do with forum rules. It's getting a bit nutty. All we needs are some objectivity and consistency and bad modding leads to po'ed posters which only leads to more problem behavior... It would be nice to have rules spelled out and have some fair application of rules instead of capricious deleting posts, closing threads and the like.
Respectfully, can we please get a clear statement on the [R] rule. Is it in effect. If so, what is it? What are responsibilities of thread creators and posters? I've just spent 45 minutes searching the entire board and reading everything I can find on it and it is as clear as MLS acquisition rules. Thanks for your consideration.
As of last I heard, it was up to the individual mods of that forum whether or not to enforce it. But you're on a soccer forum...and you don't want to know the results of the game? I can understand being spoiled on Twitter, Facebook, or by someone at the office, but my advice would be to avoid this site until you've seen that game.
There is no official [R] rule. As Krypto said, it is largely up to the the individual moderators/fora to enforce. I know YA enforces heavily, while others don't. The [R] "rule" came about from the WC (2002? 2006?) in that posters were creating threads in which it was not clear if a result was being discussed. Some of us recorded said matches and learned the results prior to watching them, and got pissed. Several of us had been members of BS for a while and knew how to figure out how to avoid results. Thus, it was instituted as common courtesy during the WC. Now it is a friendly warning, but the "rule" is, as Krypto said, if you don't want to know about the match, avoid BS (or a particular part of BS).
Moderator SwissGCZ uses the [R] rule for the Club World Cup in the FIFA and Tournaments forum. If it were up to me the [R] rule would be used in general forums more than in forums for one national team or club.
Yeah. This. You go into the *picks team at random* Everton forum and don't be surprised if you see a thread title involving *picks teams at random* Everton winning at Stadium of Light. However, if there's a forum for an MLS team and the fans there wish to discuss their favorite (and not-so-favorite) international teams, then I would think spoiler tags would go into it...something like 2013 FA Community Shield Spoiler (Move your mouse to the spoiler area to reveal the content) Show Spoiler Hide Spoiler Manchester United 2, Wigan 0 (And yes, that is the real result of that game, just to further illustrate my point.) But wait...the issue is the home page where the threads can be seen. My advice? Bookmark the forum index or "My BigSoccer" and use utmost caution and extreme judgement if you wish to come here and not see a result of a game. It would be like DVRing an important political speech or debate, then going to your favorite news site before watching the recording of that speech/debate.
^^^^^^^^^^ OK, thanks to everyone for the responses. Helpful. Kinda like an MLS league explanation of league acquisition rules but helpful and appreciated.
A bit of the problem is how many poster jump around to various fora while a mod may or may not be active. Think about it like this: the [R] rule is strict, but you get some Man U poster taunting Arsenal or Liverpool posters by posting results outside of their forum. Then you get retaliation, and so on. In the end, there would be several yellows and far more work than is necessary for mods.
OK, I thought I needed 10 replies,... anywho, I'd like to start a thread for World Cup Ticket Trading. Can't wait!
