No Los Angeles outlet. No San Jose outlet. But soccer fans in Mt. Shasta will be well served.

A read of their list of national affiliates screams "minor league."

When I read the headline on MLSnet.com, I was sooo hoping it was ESPN Radio. Stupid me, they have that wonderful "Baseball Show", that runs almost all day Sunday, on around that time. Wouldn't want to bump that would we??

As for Sportsbyline, this is a smart move for them. If they are growing a network of affiliates, picking up a national pro sports league will definitely help your credibility, and perhaps even the viability of their brand in larger markets where they don't have a presence. Maybe this is even a test to see if broadcasting a game a week during the season would be feasible as well??

Maybe the USSF should stand up and take notice as well...every bit of exposure helps, and getting WCQ's and other big games on the radio is another good marketing tool.

A side note, it seems like only a few of the MLS teams have English language broadcasts?? Am I wrong, and if I am not , why is that?? It seems like every hack minor league sports team can get on the radio...why not MLS??

This is probably a test run. If they get good ratings and positive feedback, I can see this deal expanding.

Actually, radio is much different from television in that there are no "overnight" ratings. No one will be able to tell what kind of listenership this game gets.

No offense intended, but Sports Byline is shrinking every day as a radio network.

Also noticed from the article that mlsnet.com will simulcast SportsByline's coverage via webcast.

So those without local affiliates, all is not lost.

And me here overseas, I get to listen in, too. :D

    Cheers,
    William

doubt you will see this, but they currently have the cardinals game on right now... it's in the 7th inning and should be over by the time the match starts... but if there is a pre-game show, i bet you will miss most of it

I was driving up to central Wisconsin on Saturday, trying to reach Wisconsin Rapids before the start of the all-star game. But since the game would be on the radio, I wouldn't fret that much. Got within radio range of Wisconsin Rapids and Wausau (affiliates). Wisconsin Rapids was playing oldie music and the Wausau station was playing the Arizona/NY Mets baseball game. So much for the game being on the radio.
