Can anyone tell me who the guy was who played for the Rapids around 2000 or so and ended up getting traded to DC United? I believe he was a defender and only lasted another year or so. It's driving me crazy because I can't remember.
Scotty was not the worst right back we have ever had. He had his moments. There was another guy. Tim 'what am I doing here' Martin comes to mind.
I remember Vermillion scoring couple of goals from headers after getting forward from right back. I also remember him scoring two own goals against Dallas in 2001. BTW, I've got one for you guys: Darren Swatsky (sp). Now there was a spastic, untalented, hack.
Vermillion Sawatsky Martin ... and Dougherty are amoung my all time "I can't believe we can't find better" players.
I also remember an exhibition we played against Necaxa where we played a very competitive game until Vermillion self destructed on the field (I believe it was him anyway). Every so often though, there was a large group of people who sat near by with a banner proclaiming to be the Vermillion Fan Club. Darren Sawatsky...he was not our finest Moocherific player, but at least he had...ummm...well...energy.
Vermillion was sent off for receiving a second yellow card against Zague, who throughout the game put on one of the best diving displays ever seen outside of a pool. I think the scuffle you remember came earlier in the game, when Scotty got tired of Zague's antics and knocked him down hard -- then was assaulted by Necaxa players, none of whom were cautioned. I remember the match was chippy on the whole, but in particular I thought Vermillion did fairly well in light of horrific and biased officiating that clearly favored Zague's theatrics.
I think Chung or maybe it was Trembly went chest-to-chest with one of them. Small guy vs tall so it kinda stood out in my memory.
Wouldn't have been Chung since he came after Vermillion was traded. Could have been Trembly. He had 'little man's disease' then as well as now.
Yeah, it was probably him if he played that game. As far as the little man goes, I resemble that remark except I don't have the disease. Being 5'6, my feelings get hurt anytime someone refers to Spencer(5'7) as "Oompa Loompa".
