M'Vila played his first game for Rubin in 2 years upon the return He returned to league action for Rubin on 2 October 2016, when he was a late substitute in a game against FC Krasnodar.

So Now He still has not been given a new contract by Rubin as his contract runs out December 31st of this year
I hope that pre contract will hold Knowing Rubin they may give him an offer sheet just before the old one expires just to P@ss us off

Sunderland WON'T be signing Yann M'Vila in January
Sunderland will consider alternative midfield options after it was confirmed Yann M'Vila will not be rejoining the club in January. The 26-year-old had been set to re-join Sunderland on a permanent three-and-a-half-year contract when his Rubin Kazan deal expires next month. But M'Vila's representatives have told the club he no longer wishes to return to Wearside. Chief executive Martin Bain held talks with manager David Moyes and it was agreed not to enforce the contract, with Bain adding: "Any player that we bring to Sunderland Football Club must be wholly committed." Sunderland officials had been in negotiations with the Russian side all summer over the permanent transfer of fan favourite M’Vila, who starred on loan last season at the Stadium of Light. But any hopes of landing him were thwarted by cash-rich Rubin Kazan’s refusal to go any lower than their £8.5million asking price for a player who had just a few months left on his deal. As a result, a pre-contract agreement was then agreed between M’Vila and the Black Cats for the midfielder to join in January, as reported by the Echo. But M'Vila - who is understood to have been offered a new deal to stay with Rubin - has had a change of heart over returning to Sunderland.

He is a defensive midfielder, we really need someone who can score goals from that position, however, yes we should have signed him for 5 or 8 or 9 million in the summer as to me he is/was much better than the 14 mill we paid for N'Gong who is still trying to get up to speed---------------although he is improving-------------------but don't forget, this is Sunderland we are talking about, the best money wasters in the UK.
