So with just under half the season gone I was thinking the league is much closer the league is than it has been than the last few seasons.

Assuming Rangers win tommorow there will be 1pnt between the OF.

7pnts between 2nd and 3rd. Still not as close as it should be but better than it has been. And clubs are beginning to run the OF close home and away.

3 teams chasing Aberdeen for 3rd place.

I think if anyone in the bottom half went on a good run they could still finish in the top 6. Realistically probably at least 7th and 8th are in with a good shout.

At the bottom you can pick one from five.

So what has caused it? I would have said standards dropping throughout the league giving everyone a better chance of beating anyone. But with the prospect of 3 scottish clubs in Europe after new year for only the 3rd time in history. Is it closer and more exciting than it has been for a while (maybe since 1998)? And if so why are crowds still so poor?

The poor crowds are still the result of the SPL being a two horse race. Yes theleague is closer between the top two, but everone else is playing from
3rd on downwards and until there is a new challenger for Celtic/Rangers the crowds will stay as is. And like you say the standards have dropped, that also might be keeping people away.

The ridiculous cost has also been a major factor.
