    Well, here it is.

    First, Group A

The net GD is the number of excess away goals predicted. For example, dred picked NYM to play even, but they went down by two, so dred's got a -2 GDD for that match. Add all four, and you've got you NGDD. The sign's irrelevant for now, and I only use it as a tie breaker.

    Code:
    Group A
Rank	Name Points	Net GD Dif
    8	Out_of_Touch	2	-1
    9	IASocFan 2	-2
    16	BenC1357 2	-4
    1	dred 0	-3

    			NY-NE	DC-CHI	LA-SJ	CO-KC
    dred Home	1	1	1	1
    		Away	1	1	1	0
    		Points	0	0	0	0
    		GD Dif	-2	-2	2	-1
    Out_of_Touch	Home	1	1	1	2
    		Away	1	2	2	1
    		Points	0	2	0	0
    		GD Dif	-2	-1	3	-1
    IASocFan	Home	1	1	1	2
    		Away	1	2	1	1
    		Points	0	2	0	0
    		GD Dif	-2	-1	2	-1
    BenC1357	Home	1	0	2	1
    		Away	1	0	1	0
    		Points	0	0	2	0
    		GD Dif	-2	-2	1	-1

I'd like to point out the irony of dred's picks. I think he's just humoring me! ;)

I'll do the picks tables in the other orientation in the next thread.

    Please PM me your picks!

I have full picks from Mad Sir Alex, kevbrunton, Scribe and IASocFan, but feel free to change them. Let me know if you need me to PM them back to you.

It's nice if you could keep the home side first:

    NER : NYM
    CHI :DCU
    SJE : LAG
    KCW : COL

but not critical. 16 players ain't hard to keep track of.

    Thanks!

Guinho -- Great stuff, thanks again for running this.

Can you please check my score for the Revs / Mets game? I believe my prediction was:

    NER 2 : 1 METS

I'm guessing that the order through you off since I had the away team listed first...

    Many thanks, steven.

Bizarre. I went back and looked at the master sheet, and I had it entered in that correctly, but not your pick for the LA match (even though it shows up here in the table correctly). So, that doesn't change your rank in the group, but puts you tied with fanaddict on 6.5 points. I think you're looking good to advance!

Maybe using excel for all this isn't so clever after all!

guinho, not that it matters given where i sit in the standings, but how are we dealing with OT and Pks in the 2nd game picks?

I figure OT just is part of picking the "normal" game score and we basically aren't dealing with PKs at all (but still picking the series winner?).

    any simple explanation will do.

This doesn't make sense to me. Why aren't you adding up absolute values of GD's? By adding pure GD's, someone who picked two draws would have a zero 'NGDD' if one game was 0-5 to the visitors and the other game was 5-0 to the home side. That seems nuts.

For instance, I think my NGDD should be 7 not 3.

As for humouring you, well, yeah I guess I wanted to make the most of the post season format and let my human half out. :D I guess it says something that dred loses to DRED!

Well, I've tried to reconstruct my original logic and I can't so I guess I agree that the absolute GD makes more sense. In that vein, here's where we stand:

the overall series score is scored as a regular, with 2 pts for getting the right winner, 0.5 for the right GD (including tie), 0.5 for getting the right aggregate score.
In effect, this is how we'll handle the PK conundrum. I think everyone who's picked a draw and PKs has declared their pick for overall winner.

After that the tie breaker will be the absolute value of the Goal Differential Difference (it should probably be called something like the total error, i.e. the total number of goals you are off by over the eight games) as dred so wisely suggests.

After that, the person who errs most in favor of the winning sides goes through.

After that I guess we can go with a coin flip or something (a vote by the players eliminated, a la survivor, perhaps? :) )
