When I arrived at the stadium today, I was shocked that the nets put on for MLS Cup were the black ones they used for EURO 2004...am I the only one who was bothered by this. I mean, they did a good job with the pitch (however it was about 3 months too late...thanks a lot, XGames), but those nets were hell to look at. I couldn't see what went in...in fact, it took me a good 2 seconds to realize that Burciaga's goal went in. Not a big issue, just wanted to see if anyone else felt the same way ...
I was just stunned at how nice the field looked after seeing it look like crap for most of the second half of the season. I noticed the new nets, but they weren't a distraction. Honestly, all those ugly, pasty people dressed in black at the north end of the stadium were much harder on the eyes than the new nets.
no nets Screw the nets. how about that lousy turn-out. MLS reported 21k. why is it on the TV coverage it looked half empty in the middle section. and DC fans pushed forward to the front on the north end, leaving half of that seating completely empty. game was cool. very disappointing that DC wins on our soil. and that Kansas City decides to play its worst game in a month and a half.. if all season. the league should seriously look into to cheating, imagine the ticket and tv revenue they would have had if they would have had a shady ref, call 3 pk's in the western confrence final, and the MLS Cup was DCU vs LA Galaxy. was it me or was the shadow on the field making it almost impossible to watch the game...... great timing MLS.
Re: no nets Yep, I was sitting in section 133, and we had three other people in our row. The west side of the stadium looked even worse. Most Galaxy season ticket holders appear to have skipped the match for the golf course, beach, strip clubs, bowling alleys, or anything other than a KC/DC match-up. My neighbor and I had fun, but I can understand why so many locals passed on the hassle and expense of going to see two things to which they have no emotional attachment. We wandered down into the DC section at half-time: fun guys and really enjoying the match. The KC corner looked a little glum.
Re: no nets I didn't go because I didn't give a crap about who won the game, but since I am a long suffering season tix holder, I had no choice but to pay for the tickets.
Re: seriously If so, it was barely 21,000. 18,000-19,000 seems more likely, even though the "official" attendance announced during the match was 25,000. Again. . . disappearing Galaxy season ticket-holders.
Re: seriously if i'm not mistaken [comic book guy]worst attendance for an MLS cup ever![/comic book guy] eat that executive of the year!
No, there was easily the 25,000+ that was reported in the stadium. C'mon guys, you know as well as anyone, there are always a LOT of people just milling around. And yesterday, tons of people wanted to get out of the sun and stand in the shade. Tons.
I would agree with Dawg. My brother and I joked about how for the first time, the announced attendance seemed to match what we saw in the stands. I've been to a couple "sell-outs" that had fewer fans in attendance...
