If he is staying, Arteta needs to revamp his coaching staff. We have too many junior coaches. Let's get some more experienced heads in the backroom. Maybe even get a new assistant manager - someone who can question and challenge Arteta's tactics so we get things right at the outset. A lot of our problems stem from the fact that our players are poorly coached and struggle to do the basics. Honestly, if you could fix that, and not sign players like Ryan Bertrand, top 6 could be a realistic goal. Someone posted the season's stats over on reddit last week, and we were the worst team in the league in retaining possession (literally 20th).
A halfway decent midfield is the minimal viable product that you would expect from a manager that was supposedly a better-than-average midfielder. He's has a long way to go to be #1, I don't think top 6 is viable with him at the helm. I wish it were possible to bring someone in to take over managerial duties so he can shadow someone with more experience. Without the emergence of ESR/MO, where do we land in the table? 14th/15th?
Yup. I brought this up several pages above here. There's speculation (and I wouldn't dispute it) that Arteta didn't want anyone with experience or gravitas which might threaten him in some future situation. Probably the opposite was needed. Many of the best bosses don't mind if the people they hire are better or more experienced than them.

Our conversion rates are stupid right now, and in contrast to the two years before, have nothing to do with Auba playing well
Th last two games absolutely, but since Boxing Day the team conversion rate hasn’t been extraordinary. A did a quick calculation adding up shots since Boxing Day (295) and I get a team conversion rate of 14%. (Subject to error because I didn’t write anything down). There is a possible correlation between an increase in the number of shots per game and the improvement in form, But the increase in shots per game is so slight it’s not necessarily related. The conversion team conversion rate for the season is 16%, (squawks comparison matrix), and Aubameyang’s is 24% down from about 30% the previous two years. Two more goals from his 42 shots in league play and he’s back up around 30%. He’s struggling because he’s not getting service in the areas he prefers, whether it’s because he’s not making the runs to make himself available in good areas, or because his teammates lack the creativity to consistently get him the ball is an open question.
Fair enough, thanks for the stats, I was unduly influenced by recent events. I would really like this team to be getting more shots on goal though—that seems to have collapsed during the end of Emery’s time and has not gotten better (perhaps even worse) under Arteta.
Seems to be a little bit of both. It’s notable that Aubas shot chart is wayy different than when he was with Dortmund—he’s rarely taking shots from inside the 5 now when that was his bread and butter in Germany. But if Arteta wants his CF to be more of a Firmino-type then Auba is never going to be used properly or get optimal service
Arteta's cryptic bullshit train rolls on about people inside the club trying to hurt the club. But they're gone now, so the genius should be able to get to 7th place without any interference.
I’m disappointed in Arteta’s comments. He has done exactly what he accused others of doing, he’s aired the teams dirty laundry in public. In addition, I suspect his communication, or lack thereof, with the players he sidelined, played a role in their discontent. If he had made clear what their role in the team would be last summer, some of them may have moved earlier. Significantly, he has claimed he is already talking to players about their role in the team next season and we have Luiz and possibly Willian on the way out. Maybe he learned a lesson. But unless he felt that everyone that left in January was trying to harm the team, he shouldn’t have said what he said.
The shot data has improved since ESR came into the team...but it’s not good, and we still have too many individual games, like the other day, where we just don’t get any shots.
I think he may have been implicating Sanllehi and Joorabchian as much as any players, but you’re right that he makes it sound as if anyone who has left in the last 12 months was actively undermining his work. Which is nonsense, of course.

If not Arteta. Who else is there for us. We have to accept that we can't attract top or promising managers. We have to look at maybe Hussenhuttl or other lower capable managers to take charge.
