Thought this is a topic for the general German board:

Soccer national goalie Oliver Kahn is suffering under a mysterious eye injury. The 34 year old is seeing worse and worse. He told this to Coach Otmar Hitzfeld on Wednesday before the Champions League game against Celtic Glasgow. The goalie feared to not be able to play as he saw everything blurred. Reason might be a not appropriately cured conjunctivitis.

"Oliver is treated by specialists", said Hitzfeld. They don't exactly know what's up. "We have to pay attention that it won't be chronical", said the Coach. Kahn didn't want to give a statement: "All I'm saying is that the psychological pressure is extremely high now."

His colleagues fear that their goalie might be out for a longer period of time [according to kicker he'll be able to play against Leverkusen]. He already travelled to the NT game at the Faroes with conjunctivitis.

Bayern's backup is 18 year old bloody rookie Michael Rensing and due to the transfer window Bayern can't sign a new goalie (except those who are unemployed since June 30 and before) until January. The injury can also explain Kahn's weak season so far - in kicker's ranking he is only tied at position 14 among the 18 Bundesliga goalies; only Pieckenhagen and Tremmel are worse.

I hope he's alright. He's a class keeper and it would be a shame to have something like this take him out of the game. As much as us Americans like to hype up Friedel, Keller and Howard, Kahn is a true monster and one of the best in the world.

it's a horrible thing, footballer or not, to lose your vision, even partially. impossible to fathom. is there any new information on what's happened to him or how he's doing? hope he's okay...
