    Indiana 3, Northwestern 0

Don’t look now but the Hoosiers are on a roll. Unbeaten in their last 5 including three straight wins. More importantly, they are 3-0-1 in the Big Ten with games against Penn State and hapless Ohio State. The PSU game is a makeup of a game that was called last month because of thunderstorms with IU up 2-0 so if the soccer gods are just, the Hoosiers will win the makeup, as well.

Ned Grabavoy had two goals against Northwestern and 4 goals and 2 assist during the winning streak. For the season, he has 8 goals and 4 helpers in 12 games.

Northwestern is much improved but they are still searching for their first conference win this century and at 5-4-4 are likely a long shot for the NCAAs. However, I predict they get a conference win this year and finish with a winning record and make the NCAAs either next year or the one after.

I attended this game yesterday and did a write up for topdrawer.

    see:

Contrary to the scoreline, I wouldn't consider this a real blowout, though clearly IU was overall better athletically and NU seemed to have a hard time developing effective ideas in the final third. A better save on the Plotkin shot and a called handball, and it's an entirely different game.

Unlike other matchups these two schools have had that I have seen, NU had a level of play that made it seem appropriate that they were playing an Indiana.

I can see why Indiana has struggled a bit -- they are a generally young group and at times seem careless with the ball. But despite being anchored by two freshmen, Zayner and Dieterle, Indiana's defense is very very good. I don't know what their professional aspiratons are, particularly Zayner's, but if these two stick together for four years, the Hoosiers could have a brick wall defense.

I agree with Sandon about NU. They had only one senior in the starting lineup yesteday. For them, it's just a matter of time. Their days as a Big 10 doormat are coming to an end.

Karl, that was a nice writeup but, I’m sorry, I gotta call you on this one:

Fellow U20 and Furman transfer Drew Moor did not have much of an impact on the game.

Uh, that would be because he didn’t play. Here’s the box score from the game.

According to the game story from IU’s win over Wisconsin Friday, Moor was the victim of a foul that led to an ejection. I’ll presume that’s why he didn’t play Sunday.
