Who knew the MLS draft was yesterday? That snuck up on me, and we've lost our GK. Celentano was picked second by FC Cincinnati. FCC has stunk historically, but maybe their new head coach can get them turned around...
I came over here to comment on Celentano getting picked. Hopefully he doesn't get mired down in the mediocrity that Cincinnati has been stuck in since becoming an MLS side. FCC didn't renew their contract option on Ben Lundt, a former keeper for Akron, and he was at Phoenix Rising of the USL. I am not sure where he is now.

1-1 after 90 minutes at Butler yesterday. The day was beautiful, but the soccer was not. Well, at least not IU's. Butler came out and dominated the first half hour or so and really had us pinned back with their press at had a 1-0 lead at the half.We couldn't find a way to play through them. The 1424 just wasn't effective with the players we had on the field. We pulled one back late off a corner and had one more great chance that Sarver put wide. Overall, it was about what you might expect from a February friendly. Lots left to work on...
I suppose this is good news. No details provided on Yeagley's deal though. https://www.indystar.com/story/spor...xtensions-show-finances-improving/7682856001/
It's game day... on the practice field. One shouldn't expect too much in the first exhibition of the year, but I would at least expect the field to be ready...
We asked about the field. They stripped it last year and put in Bermuda, but not all of the sections of the pitch have filled in yet. That gives them over 2 weeks to get the pitch in shape. They played 4 30-minute "quarters" last night, the first being closest to the starting lineups. This year it looks like we're playing a 3-4-3. Munie scored off a nice header from Sarver. Mihalic scored a nice second goal. We had multiple chances, but so did DePaul. Their one goal came when a forward got past the defense and our keeper for some unknown reason came out past the 18. Everybody got in. I imagine we'll be able to platoon as there is plenty of talent. BRF
For as great a program as they have at IU, the field has been a disaster since the Bermuda was put in 10-12 years ago. Doesn't drain right, goes dormant early, lots of splotches of grass in the season. Not sure Bloomington is the south enough for Bermuda.
Decent scrimmage between IU & Bowling Green. BG are a good side. Both teams had a few good chances, none as good as this sequence of shots by BG and saves by Harms. "Celentano-esque" JT Harms with a Celentano-esque triple save to keep the score at 0-0 between Indiana and Bowling Green. #iums pic.twitter.com/sORoDWG8al— The Hoosier Network (@TheHoosierNet) August 17, 2022
Exhibition or not, we got our butts kicked. We scored first on a nice header from Henderlong, but it was all UoL after that. We looked very uncomfortable with three in the back. I'll bet we go back to a 4-4-2 pretty soon.
Big game tonight. Great way to start the season. I'll have to watch it on demand later this weekend though. Date night tonight and a golf outing tomorrow morning are cutting into my tv time.
A lot of upsets yesterday, inc L'ville over SLU, MD over New Hampshire, Pitt over Georgetown, and Seattle over ND. Hopefully we can follow in their shoes tonight.
early season polls are not very predictive on the quality of the team, especially with some teams high-degree of turn-over. For example, SLU lost a host of players from graduation, professional contracts and transfers. NH starts juniors, seniors and grad students - so they'll be ok. Whereas MD has lost 3 key starters who had high-level professional quality. But MD has a host of steady performers. GTown lost some key players, but so did Pitt. No idea yet on ND.
I'm not calling any of those an upset other than maybe Seattle over ND on the road (and Seattle has been very, very good for an extended period of time). MD winning home over UNH is a good win for MD but in my mind not an upset. Same with Pitt and Lville winning at home as well.
Well, it didn't matter for us - we got beat. Our offense is okay, but we are still too porous on D. I don't think it's our back 4/3, however. I noticed a distinct lack of interest by our midfielders in playing defense. Clemson's third goal was the worst - they dribbled right by two of our midfielders who didn't even try to stop them.
Deja vu all over again against Portland. We should have easily won this game. Incredibly lackadaisical defending by both the midfield and the back line. We HAVE to learn how to mark people or it's going to be a very, very short season.
IND 2-0 AKR FT I finally got to experience Jerry Yeagley Field. Bucket List. Too bad Zips were not up for a fight.
Yeah, IU's midfield did show up, finally. They played some defense and were able to manufacture some pretty goals. We celebrated the 2012 College Cup winners. And, unlike last Saturday's game postponed due to monsoons, It was also a nice night for a game.
