On september 21 in memphis superclubs tournament I was kicked on the inside of my right kicking foot. It was hurting and couldnt finish the game. Well it started swelling and could hardly walk on it, so I went to the doctor a few days later and he said I had minor tendonitis and it was inflamed, He told me to take some anti-imflammatories and excerise it lightly. Well its now Oct 27th, and I can run and jump on it without any problems, but I cant kick without it hurting badly. I already missed a tournament and I have another this weekend that I dont want to miss. I dont want to make it worse by playing (even though I cant kick with it) but I need to play in this tournament or play in upcoming season. What should I do? The only problem is kicking and my right foot is my main foot. Just the tendon feels inflamed or somthing and hurts when direct pressure is on it. Any suggestions?
you never know, it might be broken. My friend got x-rays that turned up negative, but got a bone scan that indicated a break in his heal.
this happened to me from running laps on a concrete track in my sambas. it caused some of the worst pain i have had. i got shots in it, only to make it feel better. i was a dumbass and would rest it a lil and then play...didnt help. u need to rest. i think it took me closer to 2 months for all inflammation to go away.
ice it often for longer then 20 mins, even upto 45 mins. You'll feel some discomfort but it will go away.
I don't know, a lot of people say you can damage your skin/nerves if you leave it on too long -- you can ice it for 20 minutes on and then 20 minutes off, and repeat.
a lot of people have said that, but it's more of a myth. I've iced ankles/hands for 45 mins and nothing bad has come of it. This is all coming from our athletic trainer on our team.
I have had problems like this too. My doctor said it wasn't broken. You should take some tylenol or advil before a game or practice and ice afterwards up till 20 minutes then wait for about 15 minutes then ice again for 20 minutes.
If it is tendonitis, I would talk to a PT. I had tendonitis in both knees over the summer and my doctor gave me anti-inflamatories so I took them and I played through the pain for another month. Finally I went to a PT and at my first appointment he said there's two ways to deal with it: 1) keep playing through the pain while doing therapy for 6 months, or 2) stop playing for 6-8 weeks, get the treatments and be done with it. I thought I knew best and goofed around about a month into therapy when I thought it felt good and ended up irritating the tendon. After that, I didn't bother to look at a ball for another month and even then, I eased into playing again. My point: talk to someone who knows sports injuries, listen and follow their advice. Tendonitis doesn't really heal on it's own - you have to rehab and strengthen the muscles the tendon is connected to.
