Ok I downloaded the demo yesterday, booted up the game, and immediately had an impression of the game in the first 5 minutes: "this is utter crap".

I'm not starting this thread to discourage anyones hopes about EASPORTS's new FIFA 2004 but I'm sorry to say that after playing soccer games consecutively for more than 10 years I can boldly state that FIFA 2004 is a joke of a soccer game. Honestley it kept reminding me about Konami's classic soccer video game "Winning Eleven 6" and how the EASPORTS developers have made a pathetic attempt to immitate Konami's original work of art.
First off the demo itself is a farce when considering that the market purposes of PC demo's is supposed to attract the consumer to the product, however in this case EA has merely rolled up a pile of garbage and posted it on their website for consumers to downlaod. The demo is frankly worthless and a poor marketing endeavour, much like the annoying flyers you voluntarily recieve when u get ur paper in the mornin, things that are simply meant to be thrown away (in this case deleted). I guess I'm surprised considering that 2003 was pretty mutch a hit and an all-round decenent soccer game. But if EA thinks that people will buy this "virtual abomination" because of preceding successes, think again. I would never buy this game and I dont care that they have all the logo's and name rights because they're a rich company, instead I prefer to buy a game based on interesting gameplay (isn't that the most important thing?)

Some people may like it but I wouldn't be surprised if it got terrible reviews and little notice because of it's boring pace and its weak AI/Character performance. That demo was a waste of prescious seconds of my life.

    FIFA has terrible gameplay

How is the gameplay in Pro Evolution? I would love a soccer game to be fun and realistic to play because FIFA is laughable. All I did was find a kind of computer glitch to exploit and score all my goals that way. I had a really tough time with give and gos, through balls, and leading a player into an open space with a long ball. I think the computer tries to "help" you too much and it sometimes seems as if you don't have much control over your passing at all (with or w/o smart pass on). Thanks for this post as these adverts looked cool but I will definitely avoid the game. Maybe soccer's just meant to be played in real life (I wish we had more pickup here in the Chicago suburbs).

The through balls suck in 2004, as they sucked in 03. 02, 01, 00, ect. After playing WE6 religiously for months, I'm so used to the perfect through balls in that game. FIFA 2004 isnt that bad, but it couldve been a lot better.

However, i just got FFX2, so i wont be playing any soccer games for awhile.

You guys are really missing out on Winning Eleven 7.

By far the best footie game on PS2 when you add names and proper uniforms in addition to it's great gameplay.

    Re: FIFA has terrible gameplay

Pro Evolution is the best gameplay on any football game ever (never played World 11, though). The transfer system was very basic in PE2, which I own, and that hurt the longevity a little (i love doing that manager type stuff in ChampMan, Madden, anything really... gives the game a whole other dimension). My friend got PE3 for the PS2 and it's even better than PE2! I don't know if the transfer system's anty better, though...

    Well, well, well.
I've been an avid Fifa fan since 99. However, I must honestly say that it's becasue i'd never had any access to other footey games.

Well...there was 989's game, but that was ...............

The first WE that I had a chance to grasp was WE6.

It's bleeding hard I tell yah. It's definately not a "pick up and play' game like FIFA is. Fifa to me IS a great game in terms of FUN ratings.

WE/PRO is more of a SERIOUS, REALISTIC type of game which I am anxious to get into. Especially with all the hype about it crushing the FIFA market.

This battle has been going on for a while now, and I honeslty thought that FIFa would get back it's rankings with their new edition. (2004)

I guess not. It still seems like Pro/WE is in front. WAAAAAY in front.

I like WE, but I tell yah, If your one with a short fuse and little patience when playing video games. I would not reccomend it. You'll be pulling your hair out for the 1st month or 2, maybe even 3; and that's after HARDCORE playing time.

Anyway....Is WE7 even available in north America, because I went into EB games today, and it wasn't even in their system. :(

I haven't heard anything either. It would be an absolute travesty to not release WE7 in the states.

I have always though FIFA games are shite - personally I reckon the ISS series are the best ever - but I bought FIFA 2004 because as far as I am aware, it is the only game ever made where you can actually play as Cambridge United, and it had to be worth trying just for that.

My verdict is that it's OK but there are much better games, notably ProEvo III.

I heard that it's confirmed for February 2004, in US as Winning Eleven 7: International. At least that's what I heard. Don't matter though, as I already have patched version of WE7 as well as PES3 :D

I also tried FIFA 2004... good try trying to copy the Winning eleven gameplay engine, it's defintely better than 2003. still, close but no cigar. Winning eleven rules all.
