Shevchenko, Henry, and the way overhyped Ronaldinho are finalists Henry and Shevchenko fine but Ronaldinho? C.Ronaldo plays prettier than him, and Deco sure the hell is a better player who accomplished way more this past year.

You're joking right? Ronaldinho is the best player in the world. The only way he doesn't win this award is if Henry takes it. And both are easily more deserving than friggin' Deco.

I wouldn't say Deco was "screwed." Only 3 guys can make the final list and there was a lot of talented players to chose from. Being Portuguese, I'm somewhat disapointed that Deco didn't make it, but that's life. Maybe next year.

p.s. Sheva has to win it now. He is the most deserving of the three IMO.

the award is a joke i could have told you that, there is a huge differance between deserving this award and winning it, if deco had done what he had with RM this wouldn't even be up for debate, can anyone honestly say they are suprised, look at the list of players nominated (wasn't beckham and raul on the list?) deco was never going to win over a guy who sells shirts, henry will win because the award is a joke, the award once upon a time meant something now i have no respect for it.

my two cents is schevchenko should be the winner hes is total domination. deco is good but you have to put into consideration that the fifa people look for how well he played was he a contributing factor and so on. ronaldinho is all little bit hype man he scores a few beauties then he just doesnt work hard at the end. henry well you can say he won it last year and hes hasnt impressed me was never a fan of him. schevy has to be the clearcut winner.

Henry has to do a lot more than just dominate scoring in the EPL to deserve this award. But as has already been said, sometimes it does not go to the deserving player. If Schevchenko doesn't win it, this award is full of BS.

I this is the FIFA award right ?! so who votes for the best player are the national coaches...the irony in all this is that Ronaldinho didn´t played Copa America, Shevchenko achieved nothing with Ukraine and Henry was crap in the Euro 04...
I accept that the 3 are fantastic players, but at club level only Shevchenko and Henry won something so what is Ronaldinho doing there?!
Well this is the FIFA award like always is the same crap...
The real prize like everyone knows is the France Football prize that i think is given based on the votes several sports newspapers from Europe and usually is the real indicator of the best player of the year, fortunatly for them wining the CL, the domestic league, reaching the final of the Euro and receiving the prize for the best midfielder and player in CL will count something...

Platini would give Bola de Ouro to Deco:

Shevchencko will win this award as well..that's just my feeling. It says alot when one of France's greatest players and current Federation VP would give the Ballon D'or to Deco over Henry.

Platini tips Deco for Golden Ball award
Juventus legend Michel Platini believes AC Milan striker Andriy Shevchenko does not deserve to win the European Footballer of the Year award.

Shevchenko is among the favorites to win the trophy because of his goalscoring exploits, but Platini argues the Barcelona midfielder Deco would be a more worthy recipient as he won the Champions League and the Portuguese league title with his former club Porto.

"I would give it to Deco because of what he has won in the past year," said Platini, who won the award in 1983, 1984 and 1985.

"It's the only valid criteria to decide who deserves to win it."

Last year's trophy was won by Juventus' Czech midfielder Pavel Nedved.

More commonly known as the Ballon D'Or (Golden Ball), the annual prize was created in 1956 by the French football magazine France Football.

Voting for the award is undertaken by a group of European football journalists and is given to the player considered to have performed the best in Europe over the past 12 months.

Platini, who captained France 49 times, scored 68 goals in 147 league games for Juventus and was regarded as one of the world's best number 10s.

Truly compelling argument I now see that Deco has accomplished nothing compared to the Freak-faced Ronaldinho. After all Barcelona won the champi..oh wait that was Porto. But in Spain Barca won the....oh wait that was Valencia wait wait I know Brazil won the copa America and Ronaldinho is Brazilian who cares that he wasn't on the team it's not like they would of lost if he was there brazil can't lose with Ronaldinho oh wait....... they did to Equador moron.

Besides the trophies Deco is a visionary who can make the most amazing passes and score when needed.

Ok, unfortunately, the award is given to the best player, not the best team. And I think Deco did play well, but only in the latter stages of the season, and I don't think he did enough the WHOLE season around to deserve it. But at the pace he's at right now for both Barca and for our national team, I have no doubt he'll make the shortlist for next year and come very close to, or will win(ning) it. Ronaldinho has simply played better the whole season and no one can doubt that he was certainly on the top of his form.

Seriously, I think some of us need to take some chill-pills or at least go out and watch games or something, because there's no way that Ronaldinho isn't worthy of the shortlist. IMO, the least deserving person is Henry.

Hell I'm a huge Deco fan, but I don't think he deserves player of the year. He did not win those trophys by himself... and if all this has to do with how much you win then... Carvalho, Maniche and Deco should be top three right? But Ronaldinho is an outstanding player with ball skills only C Ronaldo can rival. But he's the full package. Shevchenko is probably the best striker in the world you can't dispute that and Henry is the engine that got Arsenal the undefeated season... But I do think Deco should be ahead of Henry but...what can you do?

our the world see's Portugal and Deco also in the article below

Mourinho achievement can only be match by Figo winning the World Football player award

    http://www.record.pt/noticia.asp?id=624789&idCanal=473

    Mourinho is Our's

    Mourinho nosso

Although i think Deco is one of the best in the world, i don't think he should of won this year. Hopefully he will get a lot more popularity at Barca than buddy Ronaldinho and then maybe in WC06, depending how well Barca does and Portugal, he will have a legitimate shot. C. Ronaldo is still miles away from being the best.
