Sac Bee article on ownership search, with a surprise regarding a tie-in to the Crew relocation: http://amp.sacbee.com/news/local/news-columns-blogs/city-beat/article213123774.html Personally, I'm uncomfortable getting a local team this way. Rebranded or not, I wouldn't be able to wholeheartedly support Precourt's team. But it's not just about me. After Scaramento's recent brush with losing the Kings (NBA), it seems pretty tone-deaf to consider pulling a new team in to this community. Yes, ironically, Sacramento got the Kings from Kansas City. Now Sacramento's experienced almost losing a team itself, 30-something years after getting its first big-league team. You want to muffle support from the start? Relocate a team this way, into a city that's had this recent experience. You want to relocate? Look at more than the numbers. Support is about much more than how things look on paper. edited for spelling
A couple weeks ago Taylor Twellman said he thought the Crew would go to Sacramento if Austin fell through. He's a league mouthpiece so maybe he knows something. My suggestion to Sacramento is to keep up with the expansion bid to bring the Republic into MLS. If the court case in Columbus results in the Crew staying here, don't let Precourt join the ownership group there. You're better off without him.
