Could Zidane come to Metro in 2007-8?

Anyone think that Zidane would like to come to Metro once he retires from La Liga in 2007? He has hinted that he will retire after the World Cup and the final year of his contract and he is friends with Djorkaeff. I believe he has also expressed an interest in coming to MLS.

Man, oh, man, as a Real Madrid fan and a huge Zidane fan, nothing would make me happier (other than an MLS title this year, of course.)

You know that is the only thing that would make me happier than Zizou going back to Juve. But I doubt it tho. We can dream :D

It's definitely a great dream. I think it would be great to have him on the squad. From our side I can't see why we wouldn't want to being him onboard. From his side though, there is 1 factor we may need to consider, and this can go either way.

The article says he's expecting his 4th child soon. While France & Spain are close, the US apparently is a little further away (i've never been good with geography, but I'm pretty sure on this). So either he brings his family over to the US, and they get a nice taste of our culture, or he may not want to do that to his family, and then may not come over. For 4 kids to switch schools and stuff like that, it may be tough, but who knows he may want to raise them in US schools.

I really hope he would come over here, he could be our entire midfield. I have a picture of him on this ad that says, "A Manager's Dream Lineup, 4-Zidane-2" :)

not to sound like a fair weather fan, but id rather watch zidane run around a bunch of inferior players 30 times a year than a mls cup this year, because if metro ever did aquire him, there is no way we wouldnt win every year we had him

Zidane is a has-been. If the Metrostars have any ambitions in developing youth, then buying a 35/36 year old dud isnt the answer.

Zidane isnt near as good as what he was in France 98 or SK in 02.

You're right! Those idiots at Real Madrid have no idea of who is a good soccer player. Just look at the rest of the loosers they have on that team.:)

I don't think it would ever happen but man, i would be freakin stoked. if he became a metro :D

However, I think if he ever decided to play again he could make huge middle eastern bucks plus he'll be in a muslim country.

If he can play as well as 'old man Djorkaef' he would do very well in MLS. Youri got himself into game shape by the last third of the season and just took off against the league.

MLS ain't the World Cup -- but you knew that, so why the negative vibes?

Zidane is in darned good shape for a guy his age. If we could get him on Metro, we'd have a better midfield than when DC had Etcheverry.

Actually, the best thing for our young players is having players like Djorkaeff and Zidane around as mentors.

A 35 year old Legend playing in MLS is comparitively like the same legend at 28 playing in a Top Class league. Lets be honest...if the guy is playing in Spain today and doing so so , playing in a lesser league will make him "better" again as his opponents will be less experienced, more in awe and generally less talented.

Oh, like Big Eck wouldn't bring him to Ibrox in a heart beat!

Did you catch any of Les Bleus' qualifiers without and then with him? Has-been and IS.

This is another reason why the Metros need to stay the one and only NYC area team, to continue to attract that kind of top-flight talent.

It may only be a dream, but we have had a World Footballer of the Year already (whether or not you want to bash him is another issue).
