Any advice at all is welcome, but I do have one particular question: what kind of cleats should I look for, as far as cushioning and pattern/shape of the cleats on the sole.

    Some background:
I play recreationally, have all my life (am 25) did one season in a D3 college before I transferred, played intramurals and rec leagues since.

I tore my ACL two years ago, rehabbed without surgery and then aggravated it this year when I started playing again. So I did the surgery two weeks ago.

I had torn the cartillage and both menisci, so arthroscopy to help that, and a full tear of the ACL, so I have a grafted tendon to replace it.

So that's it. I'll be rehabbing for a few months... maybe by April I'll be playing again, no need to hurry since I have to wait for the Spring season anyways!

Just basicaly looking for general advice on how people dealt with it, warming up, exercise, taping up, anything really, and particular advice on equipment, cleats in particular, to use.

    Looking forward to playing again,

    Robert

I tore my ACL last year and had surgery a year ago last July 3rd. I still feel it alittle just to let you know, so don't expect to come back for about a year, not a couple of months. As far as the cleats go I use the same copa mundials that I did before the only difference is that now those little heal cups in my shoes seem to help out. Don't know why, they just do. I did everything around your age (25) just to let you know so if you have any more questions just let me know. I am still looking for questions myself :)

I wouldn't particularly worry about what kind of shoes, since it is a knee injury, I don't think it really matters too much.

For a long time I had to wear a big brace that the hospital provided me with. After wearing that for a while, I went with one of the store bought knee braces.

My advice is take it easy. Work hard to get back in shape, but don't force it. Basically, listen to your body.

I found that getting over the injury was more mental than physical. Yeah, the injury hurt real bad, but I healed fine. I found the problems were in my head not in my knee...I was very apprehensive for a while, but gradually you get back to normal.
