Hagel calling it quits when term ends - CNN

One of the good guys, no doubt fed up with the inmates running the Republican asylum.

    What a shame.

That's pretty much how I feel about it. Every time one of the old school guys leaves I get a little bit more worried.

$10 says this will translate into a vice-presidential slot for Bloomberg's candidacy.

I thought he already said that he would not run for president. Does vice president count?

When he says he won't run for president he probably means it, or he meant specifically in the Republican party. He has stated a few times he's spoken to Bloomberg about being on his ticket.

Interesting - and sad. Congress needs a lot more mavericks like Hagel. OTOH, is the number of Reep retirements now at three: Hagel, Warner, King Blumpkin... Am I missing anyone.

You're talking about voluntary and not forced retirements, right? ;)

    It's 3 right now:

    Hagel (Nebraska)
    Warner (Virginia)
    Allard (Colorado)

Craig will have a replacement named, so technically it's not going to be an open seat.
