According to the Salt Lake Tribune, Real Salt Lake will be announcing its acquistion of Paul Broome today.

Trivia note: With the Broome acquistion, RSL will now have almost as many long-time (3 years +) Burn players as FCD

    RSL:

    Behncke, 3 yrs with Burn
    Broome, 4+ yrs
    Kreis, 9 yrs
    Washington, 3+ yrs

    FCD:

    Cassar, 3 yrs with Burn
    Johnson, 4 yrs
    O'Brien, 3 yrs
    Pareja, 6+ yrs
    Rhine, 6 yrs

    Let's go Utah Burn! :)

Sampson continues his house cleaning, Broome should help RSL at the left back since neither Rojas or Behncke seemed able to get it done. Intersting that RSL would add a defender/mf when they are the worst attacking team in MLS.

Well, the thing is that while that whole record scoreless streak was going on, Pope and Rojas were called up, Dunseth and Pierce got injured, and Akwari got suspended again. Our backline was falling apart right when our offense was officially stalled out like a Geo trying to drive through a pond. It was beautiful.

So, well, who is this guy? How good is he? What are strengths and weaknesses?

He's a converted forward. I think he's good. He has bite to his game. He's fast. He will go forward, but he does take care of his defensive duties. You'll enjoy any game watching him match up with a winger or right-back who's pushing up. He'll let them know he's there. He takes it personally!

Well, that is the guy before 2003. If he regains his form, he is fast, tenacious and while not perfect, certainly serviceable.

Just not sure if he will regain his form. :( Good guy and all that - similar to Salyer, but probably better when 100%.

I thought Broome played pretty well in LA under Sigi, but for whatever reason, Sampson never seemed to give Paul much of a shot to succeed.

More than most coaches, Sampson seems to play favorites, and if you ever find yourself on his ******** list, it's very tough, if not impossible, to get off it.

Does DJ count? He was in Dallas 2 years?

Happy for Broome. I think if he gets more real PT, he would help RSL get a transition game.

Interesting that RSL used a draft pick that originally belonged to Chivas. Chivas traded the pick so they could get Sequeira (spelling?) I think Chivas got the sh#t end of that deal. Broome would really be helpful to Chivas and Sequeira has been in my opinion one of their worst players. Certainly not worth the foreign player slot.

True, but my original post compared the number of players on RSL and FCD who played several years (3 or more) with the Burn.
