So ive been having a problem with my turntable as of late, and im really not sure why. Its a pioneer, from either the late 70s or early 80s, direct drive turntable. I bought it with a used needle and cartridge that worked out well for a while until the needle totally wore out, and it was found that my cartridge was also in pretty bad shape. So i got a new needle, and a new cartridge, put them in a new headcase (the wires on my old one snapped, and i couldnt find anyplace that sold just the wires) , and , although the sound quality is now better than it was, it still does not sound nearly as good as it did when the old needle was at its prime. the main problem seems to be that alot of the sharp-kind of sillabance sounds are coming out fuzzy in a big time way. this means that i pretty much cant play anything that has any kind of distortion on anything without it being mostly sillabance fuzz. the problem gets worse at 45 speed. any idea what this might be? witha new needle, cartridge, and headcase, i doubt it could be any of those, and im stumped. any help would be much appreciated. thanks alot.
Sounds like a wiring problem or a grounding problem, but am not sure unless someone looks at the unit. If you bought the cartridge from a local shop, you might want to bring the turntable to the shop for an evaluation. But if you bought the cart. online/mail-order, which sounds like you probably did, you may also bring your unit to a hifi dealer and ask for a free opinion. But of course they may be more interested in wanting to sell you a new unit altogether. Good luck!
