Hi Everyone Sources say that Midfielder Hugo Vianna is in the doghouse of Sir Bobby Robson. He did not dress for Newcatle"s game vs Arsenal a 3-2 loss. That makes 2 out of the last 3 games were he has not even been a sub. Looks like troubled times for Vianna and Quresema. They better pick up their games if they are going to stay with Newcatle and Barcelona. Roy
Roy, What sources? I am have been poking around some web sites to try to figure out why he was not even on the bench today. Was there a specific incident, or is his frustration of being used in the wrong position or not at all beginning to bubble over? I am puzzled by Hugo's exclusion today, because by all accounts, he was very effective in his 10 or so minutes against Breda the other day. It was amazing when Robson put him in the center of the midfield, he actually played well. I, for one, would be glad to see Newcastle loan Hugo out or sell him outright if Robson only intends to play him on the left wing. You have to ask yourself why he spent $13M on him in the first place. The one good thing about Hugo not playing much this season is that he can't be played for Newcastle's horrible start to the season. Jermaine Jenas, who played one of the central midfield positions, was responsible for two of the three goals.
Let's hope Ronaldo and Boa Morte can continue their outstanding starter of the season, the others can't expect much
Does anyone know if Ronaldo has been Suspended by the english fa for his actions vs Arsenal last week Roy
Still under review. Does anyone care to provide sources on the Viana in the doghouse or Viana injured claims?
The sources are that my co worker"s cousin works at the stadium where Newcastle play and according to him Vianna is in the doghouse so take it for what it is. Bottom line is that he is not playing right now and is not even on the bench so something is up. Roy
Ronaldo just spend over 500 thousand dollars in one week, he bought a new home, a new BMW, and spend 50,000 dollars shopping at fannels, the same place Beckham and Victoria shop.
If Viana is in the doghouse, I wonder what for. The fact of the matter is that Newcastle's midfield has been utter crap these first few games. They're playing Dyer in the middle, even though he has none of the creativity necessary for a central midfielder. When Newcastle plays at home, the other teams tend to pack in the defense, and that's where a creative central mid is necessary. The best option is Viana, no one on that roster is better than him for that position. I watched the ManU game, and Viana was subbed in for Robert on the left wing. That's not his place... I don't understand what Sir Bobby is doing. Maybe they'll loan him back to Sporting.
Hugo Viana just played with the Newcastle reserves a win against Bolton reserves, by the way Jardel scored two goals for Bolton on a losing cause.
From what I have been able to ascertain, the primary reason for his exclusion is that Robson believes he is too light weight to be playing in a central midfield role in the Premiership. Robson believes that Newcastle would be giving up too much physically in the center of the pitch with Viana in there, especially if he is paired with Jenas. However, using a Speed-Dyer or Speed-Jenas midfield has not yielded much success this year. And, aside from the 5-0 demolition of NAC Breda last week in the UEFA Cup, the Magpies have not been very impressive in the offensive half. I would agree that Hugo is not the most physical presence, but it is clear that he will set up a number of dangerous opportunities for his strikers and wingers every game. The key for him is to continue to work hard in practice and in reserve matches, and hopefully Robson will give him a chance at center midfield. Or, if Newcastle continues its poor run of play, it may be another manager’s decision.
I think it is important to have a little perspective on the subject. We are talking about two very young players (20-21 years old) who are very early on in their respective international careers. All of this is a learning process, and I would guess that both will be better for it. From what I have read, Helder has played pretty well for Spurs, but he has no goals to show for it. With a player like Postiga, I would not be surprised if he scored a bunch of goals after that first one goes in.
