As newspapers and agents reported, Galatasaray are in really big financial crisis. Players are unpaid for a long time and there are lots of news reported. According to some papers players will boycott the training camp starting in 4th of January. Also some other papers reported that foreign players are now free agent since they are not paid (just like Ribery case at the beginning of the season). Also other reports claim that manager Geretz is considering not to come back to Turkey until the crisis is over.
http://www.turkishsoccer.net/ Here is a little more on this story in English...Erkan, thanks for the info you posted...hard to believe a big club like Gala couldn't pay it's players.
Some newspapers in Romania say that my team, Poli Timisoara (managed by Hagi) is after Hasan Sas. What are the chances that he might get here? Has he been a reserve this season at Galata? And what do you think his transfer value would be?
Hasan started this season very well. He made 8 assists in 10 weeks I guess. But then he had a serious injury, he cannot play for a long time. I don't think that Geretz will want him out. If Galatasaray can manage to solve the financial crisis I'm sure that he will stay. He is a crucial part of the team. Also, I'm sure that if he wants to leave or if the team wants to sell him he would prefer to go to a team in England, Spain or another major league in Europe. If he cannot do that, Hagi's team may be one choice for him, and I think he will worth at least 2 million dollars.

What a result although Fener produced a similar result by winning 5-0. Do any of you know an English website that is dedicated to news, transfers, results etc of the Turkish league? I can literally only find the tables and other relevant things on www.antu.com and come on now, is that a place where a person who supports Galatasaray should go? (but it's honestly Turkey's best football website in terms of design, multimedia, presentation, information albeit in Turkish). If you know please pass on the information. Also, for you fans, there is a 3-4 page article on the Gala-Fener derby in this month's edition of FourFourTwo (English magazine) that can be bought at your typical Barnes & Nobles or Borders (also online). It's an interesting synopsis of the nature of the derby with also a perspective around the current condition of the two rival clubs. Funny thing is that I should have been a Fener fan since my friend who introduced me to Turkish football was a loyal Fener 'taraftar.' Ironically he took me to watch Galatasaray matches during their incredible 2000 UEFA Cup win.... and now it saddens me to hear that the board aren't paying their players and the state of affairs with Galatasaray is in dire straits... but nice result and very good to see a resurgent Umit Karan hat-trick and also a goal from Necati.... Cim bom bom sen bizim hersey imizin!
Antu is the best fan site for sure. But it is a Fener place Keep checking there, it is a good one. But an English version is here , it's a good one too http://sportnews.ajansspor.com/ When the day Fenerbahce-Galatasaray derby comes I'll have lots of things to write!
New Leader is GalataSaray ;.. Galatasaray edge ahead.. Galatasaray surged three points clear at the top of the Turkish Super League with a 4-2 win against Rizespor.. Galatasaray surged three points clear at the top of the Turkcell Turkish Super League with a 4-2 win against Rizespor. Hakan Sukur scored either side of half-time, and his efforts were augmented by Sasa Ilic and an Allyson own goal. They take a crucial advantage with four games remaining after defending champions Fenerbahçe fell foul of a Sinan Kaloglu hat trick for bottom side Vestel Manisaspor, slumping to a 5-3 defeat on Saturday. A 3-0 win against Diyarbakirspor saw Trabzonspor go level on points with Besiktas, who drew 2-2 at Gaziantepspor, while Genclerbirligi drop to fifth after a 2-0 defeat at Erciyesspor. link source ; http://sportnews.ajansspor.com

Why is the Galatasaray ultra group called "ultraslan"? And is the Ali Sam Yen really called "the hell"?
Question #1 Aslan in Turkish means "lion." The symbol of Galatasaray is the lion. So the ultra group basically merges the word "Ultra" and "Aslan" into "UltrAslan." We've all ready the Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe by CS Lewis. Remember the name of the wise lion? Aslan... *NOTE: The nickname of Galatasaray is not Aslan but Cim Bom. The origin of this "Cim Bom" has many stories..some say that it is after a footballer and some other stories have it as a Swiss football song that Galatasaray Lycee students brought back... Question #2 I think the fans of Galatasaray have nicknamed Ali Sami Yen as "the Hell." Do you recall Manchester United in the early 1990s would come to Istanbul to play Champions' League matches and fans at Ataturk airport would have "Welcome to the Hell" signs. Although the stadium holds roughly around 30,000, the noise and passion that is generated in Ali Sami Yen is at a level that would make even Old Trafford packed with 67,000 sound like a Sunday morning church service. Paolo Maldini, playing with AC Milan, against Galatasaray in Ali Sami Yen asked how many fans were in the stadium after a match...someone told him 30,000. He was so shocked because he said afterward that there had to be at least 60,000. While Sukru Saracoglu (Fener's home stadium) is the best developed in Turkiye, Ali Sami Yen is nicely nestled and has a fan base that is loyal and loud. It's no wonder that in 2001 when Real Madrid came to play a quarter-final match in the CL that despite being up 2-0 at half-time, the crowd roared on Cim Bom (see above) to come back and score 3 goals to win the first leg 3-2. GS eventually lost but that's the type of atmosphere that can be made in Ali Sami Yen or "the Hell!"
We all hope that Trabzonspor beat Fener in Trabzon. They drew with Fener in Sukru and I am hoping my countryman Lee Eul Young will do wonders and score and set up Fatih Tekke ..or anyone else wearing a jersey other than the "sari lacivert." Of course we still have Besiktas so by no means is anything decided. la la la la la la la lay~ o~ cim bom bom! Cim bom geliyor!~
Thanks for the answers Almo. I knew aslan from C.S. Lewis' books, and I had seen a lot of Gala fans holding pictures of lions, but I didn't think it would have been that lion. Makes sense, now. And I love the Ali Sam Yen. Ive never been, but have seen plenty of pictures of the packed stadium and can get a hint of the atmosphere created there. Its way better than the new Ali Sam Yen they are supposedly building. That place has absolutely no character, individuality, distinctiveness, etc. This Ali Sam Yen seems to have atmosphere no matter what the occasion.
Ohh That is a lot more knowledge than many of Turkish and even Galatasaray fans have about Galatasaray
In all fairness, the current Ali Sami Yen stadium is rather old and several season's ago (I think 2 seasons to be exact), Cim Bom were forced to play their home matches in Atatürk Stadium (which has much less atmosphere from what I've been told - mostly due to that track). At one point I remember seeing pictures of one part of the stands (the one opposite the highway) being torn down for re-construction. Understandably, with Fenerbahce having Sükru Saracoglu redeveloped and indeed making it a stadium worthy of European matches, Galatasaray wants the same. Both Fener and Gala (no disrespect to Kartal) are the biggest clubs in Turkiye. If Fener has such a nice stadium, then Gala's board wants pretty much the same. Sometimes atmosphere has to be sacrificed for the good of the club just like Arsenal are doing by moving to Fly Emirates Stadium from their traditional nest in Highbury. While Fener have won one more championship than Gasaray, even Fener fans will have to admit that it is Cim Bom that have had more success in continental competitions and with at least the second position secured for next season, Galatasaray's board must come to a quick decision on moving to better the image of Galatasaray when it plays home matches in Europe. Practically how possible that will be is a mystery especially after this season's fiasco of the club being unable to pay players.
Galatasaray is trying to recover its financial situation and also trying to get a deal trading in the old stadium (location very valuable) for having a stadium complex project outside the city. Hope it will finish fast. It has been procrastinated for long time. When they build the new stadium, things will be much better in 3-4 years combined with the fact that Galatasaray's grassroots is coming up very strong. Galatasaray's young teams are the best in Turkey right now. PAF team just got champions. Gala will reappear strong in the European cups soon. We will watch much nicer attacking and high tempo football, just like 6 years before, from Gala.
