In Ridge's cover story, he predicts some of the transfer fees of current MLS players. Here's what he's got:
    L. Donovan- $2.5 million
    D. Beasley- $2 million
    C. Bocanegra- $2 million
    B. Convey- $1.2 million
    D. Ralph- $1 million
    C. Ruiz- $1 million
    R. Clark- $1 million
    C. Mathis- $.75 million
    A. Brown- $.7 million
    R. Nelsen- $.5 million

do you think he's got them right?

I would hope he doesn't have them right. And where is Eddie Pope on that list? I'd hope we'd be able to get more then $2 million for Beasley or Bocanegra....not to meniton Donovan remains property of Leverkusen. I think if his price was that low MLS/Nike would have stepped up and gotten his permanent rights.

I don't know about all the rest of them, but Bocanegra is out of contract after this season.

Unless MLS pulls a Jerry Maguire, the transfer fee there will be $0.

    2.5 for donovan?

that fact that his contract is held by Leverkusen, doubles if not triples that figure

maybe ridge doesn't the the facts right, or he know something we don't, but i thought Boca, Mathis, and Nelsen could go on frees after the year, so i don't see why we'd be getting any transfer fee for any of them.

    anyway,
i think donovan's price (which mls has absolutely no say in) would be above $3 million. The same goes for Beasley and Boca's is probably closer to that number also.
I also think Ralph's price will be much higher than $1 million, as well as Ruiz, but that could be about right.
Convey's price seems right (if we are to believe the reports of his Tottenham trasfer fee) and Clark and Brown's prices seem about right.

I suspect it's meant to be speculation, not based on whether someone's signed to a contract or not.

I think Convey's too high, but if Tottenham was going to pay that amount, that would instantly prove me wrong. I would personally put Ralph above Convey, and Ruiz too.

Mathis seems high to me, but maybe a lot of teams will shell out $750K on the possibility of reclaiming potential.

For whoever thinks Donovan, Beasley and Boca are too low, remember that American players are severely undervalued - or at least don't command the fees that players from other countries often will.

Great issue this one. Read the first part at lunch today while eating at Schlotzscky's.

I think 1.2 million is exactly what Tottenham agreed to pay.

I thought they had Ruiz low - I would put him at 2.0 million. Dude has skills that score goals.

True. When people like Mark Williams or whoever move to DIV 1 English teams with ease, it has more to do with Americans not having Euro passports and than the talent to play in the league. Euro leagues with foreign player restrictions will just pick a player with a Euro passport than go with an equally or more talented American.

He's said after the deal Everton offer didn't go through that he was no longer interested in going to Europe. He's happy in C'bus.

I don't think Ridge's numbers are too far off.

i think Ralph could go to a medium size or smaller club in a big league for around 2 or 2.2 million. Ruiz's contract only has one year left on it, i think, but he could make it in some of Europes smaller leagues, maybe around 1.7 to 1.9 million. I definately see him going to Europe, not to Mexico as Ridge suggested in the magazine.

It looks right to me except those who are out of contract. Players in their last year of contract have very low transfer fee. Birmingham only paid about 150k for Stern John when he normally worths 10 times that much at least.

No what he meant was he wasn't interested in another loan deal. Everton just wanted to loan him for two years, but McBride wanted an outright tranfer if he was going to move his new family to England. However, Everton didn't want to put the money up for a full transfer for a 31 year old forward, so McBride said no thanks to the loan deal.

If a EPL or #1 divison Europe club wanted a full transfer, not a loan deal, and he felt the situation was right for him, he'd probably accept it. It would have to be a full transfer though because he said wouldn't accept any more loan offers. Everton was willing to pay between 750K to 1.2M in US dollars for the loan deal if I remember right.

I think I am gonna ask my bank for a loan, and buy Ruiz for $1 million transfer for Club Dawgpound in my backyard, because I could sell Carlos for a lot more than $1 million. I'll make a fortune.

Ruiz has to be valued at closer to $3-3.5 milion.

Remember, Tim Howard was transferred for about $3.6 million (and worth every penny).

is that what mls got? i thought it was 2.4 million guaranteed plus extra based on appearance (which obviously he's getting) so does that bring it up to 3.6?
