San Jose Mercury News: "Before his winning goal, a tough season for Faria" San Jose Mercury News: "A rally rich in good fortune"       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
And there was a new (sort of) quarter-page ad in the today's Sports section for the upcoming game, to boot!       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
I read those as well and am still wondering: "What additional miracle/fantastic feat of athleticism must these Quakes perform in order to make the full front page spread?"
If the 49ers or Warriors or Giants or even the Sharks had done something similar, the coverage would have been non-stop for several days running. For the Quakes, it's ancient history. And that's wrong. And you should e-mail the sports editor of the Murky News at sports@mercurynews.com and let him know your thoughts. I will.
It still makes me glad that the local Bay Area news outlets have been giving the Quakes non-stop free press all week. I expect a good crowd on Saturday (one that I, unfortunately, won't be among in attendance.) I can't help but shake the notion that the win on Saturday may have single-handedly saved this organization and kept this team in San Jose. However, a win on Saturday may be the thing that really seals the fate of the team.
I certainly wouldn't go that far (the front-office finally got off its duff and started raising the attendance in the last several home games - the organization was staying in San Jose regardless), but the game sure did create a buzz among the local general sports fans and media about the Earthquakes that was missing since... well... the days of the NASL Earthquakes!       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
