i've gotten comfortable with the notion of the used CD too. cheap cheap cheap. should've thought of it years ago.
Two more of the cheapies I ordered have rolled in: Midnight Oil: No Man's Land Starflyer 59: Fell In Love at 22 [EP]
good choices there pvan4. here's a few I've snagged recently: Devendra Banhart: Rejoicing in the Hands Sylvain Chauveau: Un Autre Decembre Living Sacrifice: Living Sacrifice
Yeah, buddy. First paycheck is almost here, so I decided to reward myself with a trip to the CD store. Talking Heads: The Name of This Band is Talking Heads
Re: Velvet Underground: Loaded Don't know how much you are into the Velvets, but "Loaded" has always been my least favorite of their albums. Aside from a throw-away first disc of demos, their box set, "Peel Slowly and See" is great. It includes their other three studio albums (along with "Loaded"), the material used for the 1985 compilation "VU", and a lot of other stuff.
Re: Velvet Underground: Loaded I've also got the one simply titled Velvet Underground. They are quite different. I keep meaning to explore further, but just haven't yet.
I find it hard to be against buying something used for much cheaper, ESPECIALLY with things like CDs and DVDs who's quality doesn't deteriorate over time. Minus scratches. But that stuff's easy to tell. If you end up getting one with scratches, it's your own damn fault for not checking.
Re: Velvet Underground: Loaded Much like "Loaded", "The Velvet Underground" is a pretty mellow album compared to "The Velvet Underground & Nico" and "White Light/White Heat". Those two albums feature lots of feedback and noise, especially "White Light/White Heat". Both are fantastic and "The Velvet Underground & Nico" is usually listed with "Sgt. Pepper" and "Never Mind the Bollocks" as among the most influential albums of the rock era. I'm also quite partial to "VU" which is an odds and sods collection of "lost" recordings.
I guess I just never bothered because most people treat their CDs like crap, but I find out I'm not the only one that takes care of mine
Re: Velvet Underground: Loaded I've been meaning to get it, I don't know why I haven't. Sometimes I've got this mental block against rock music from before my time. I'm always more tempted to buy from "the now."
Re: Velvet Underground: Loaded Got some free music, so I decided to get some stuff I'm "supposed" to have and am listening to it. I'm trying to unblock my mental block against older rock stuff...so here we go.... The Beach Boys: Pet Sounds The Clash: London Calling The Velvet Underground: The Velvet Underground & Nico The Who: Who's Next
Pretty good choices, including Fat Boy Slim. Check out the Housemartins first album "London 0, Hull 4" for Fat Boy in a completely different musical style. "Who's Next" may be an overplayed classic rock radio war horse but top to bottom I think it's the strongest album ever made.
