I remember towards the end of last year it was rumored for Arsenal to come to Chicago. Instead we get Chivas vs Roma in Bridgeview.
Here's a bit of good news & silverware for a squad I'm not sure I knew existed! https://www.arsenal.com/news/league-cup-victory-arsenal-amps
I won an amputee golf tournament once. by a half-dozen strokes, even - blitzed the field. then they didn't give me the prize, simply because I'm not an amputee. that hardly seemed fair.
my dad was a prosthetist. he owned his own prosthetics shop, where I worked summers as a kid. he was also an amputee and an avid golfer. and he (the business) would hold an tournament every summer. there would usually be around 30-40 players, I'd guess. anyway, I would always go out and play with them. I'd grown up around all these guys, so I knew 'em all. it was really more of an outing than a tourney, so nobody gave any thought to it. in fact, he had one or two employees who weren't amputees, and they played, too. but there were prizes and stuff, and one year I went out and hung up a 70* (-2). no way was dad gonna give me the trophy, of course. *it was on my home course.
it's true, actually. the date hadn't occurred to me … perhaps I should go back and make it an even more impressive 64, or have a fistfight break out at the awards dinner, or something.
Don't do that. 70 is impressive enough! Some of us have played for decades and never broken 80, even on an "easy public course". So don't rub it in mate!!!

Arsène: “When I die and meet God, and before choosing between Hell and Paradise, I will ask him where all the refs are.” The most gangster of managers
The notion that one, after death, gets to choose between Heaven and Hell betrays some serious theological miscomprehensions from Le Professeur.
Ramsay, meet Ramsey. Ramsey, Ramsay. How do you do? https://t.co/3qO95eDJnT— Giantgooner (@GiantGooner) April 4, 2019
Just watched our buddy Vito Mannone playing for Minnesota United (who knew?) and dealing my Red Bulls yet another home loss (go figure). Vito still looks good... perfect level for MLS.
I didn't know this until yesterday either to catch part of the match, and MN United is my home team. Don't follow them remotely close to the Arsenal, but their new Stadium is going to be an amazing venue for matches and other events.
Like Target Field for the Twins early in the season, it's gonna be murder for you in those frigid late March/early April matches.
I've been wondering if the league takes this into consideration when making the schedule? Is there any evidence or precedence of northern teams, e.g. Toronto/Montreal playing more of their home games in the summer and less of them in the colder months?
IIRC Montreal luck out because they can play at the aging Olympic Stadium early in the season instead of Saputo. Toronto, not so much.
Ex-Gunners keep showing up in MLS. Tonight I'm just starting to watch Justin Hoyte playing LB for FC Cincinnati against my NYRB. Apparently he's been with them for a few years.
Maybe it's time for all of us who are disappointed and disenchanted with our current manager & players, to shift our support to another team who knows how to: * Go away and win a clutch game * Do it in some style * Winning the league * With 1 game to spare * With a very small squad * And serious injury losses * With Man City in the rearview mirror KUDOS!! to Vivianne Miedema and the Arsenal Women... and especially Joe Montemurro. Maybe he has a future with another Arsenal squad?
I went to post this on the official Laca thread: https://www.arsenal.com/news/201819-player-season-alex-lacazette A totally deserved award. All season long he showed up and stepped up, when many others fvcked up or went missing. BUT to my surprise, THERE IS NO LACA THREAD?!! A few years back I found the same thing about Sanchez so I started his thread and put "take you for granted" in the thread title. But this may take the cake! Sorry Laca, we really do appreciate you. Really!
Interesting data point: This is a pivotal moment for the Kroenke’s. Letting the guy who built this team go over $6 million or whatever would reinforce the idea they are cheap and will never really invest in what they need to. He’s got ties to the area, but if this is about money, it’s a KSE failure https://t.co/tBTxrJQViW— Hardwood Paroxysm (@HPbasketball) May 8, 2019
