I think it's time for this forum to have a thread dedicated to the promising youngsters of this country. U-19 level seems to be the most reasonable limit because after that there's rarely any doubts about the player's potential. Also, I'm tired of seeing multiple threads of U-19 players. Why not concentrating all of them into one? I start by quoting myself in the Boavista thread: 15-year old Kaby is right now on trial in Chelsea. According to Record, Chelsea is only getting a taste of him and then will advance to a concrete proposal when he gets more mature at Boavista. According to the article, he came to Portugal at a very young age but doesn't have the portuguese citizenship. Hope he gets to stay here the enough time...if he's that good, we certainly need a great playmaker for the future. http://www.record.pt/noticia.asp?id=757499&idCanal=12
Daniel Carrico rocks, what a superb centreback. Adrien Silva Fabio Ferriera and Ricardo Fernandes from Chelsea youths. Yago Fernandes from Valencia
Look at Kaby. I think this is when they were/are 15 or something. Kaby is the black kid.
Apparently Chelsea have bought Kaby. Can anyone confirm this. I found this link, http://www.lusofootball.blogspot.com/
Sorry Joelzinho , Chelsea have now taken 3 sporting youth players. How would you assess this kid Kaby? What is his position? Are you surprised that Fabio Ferreira hasn't gotten a shot in the first team yet? He seems to have the pace and physique to succeed, but his end product is lacking.
He wasn't a Sporting academy player, Kaby was at Boavista. Andre's blog, lusofootball, just highlights youth players in Portugal and abroad though it's based off Sporting's academy teams.
Oops my mistake. You are a sporting fan, how are you feelings on Fabio leaving and that lack of progress he's made into the Chelsea first team. Do you think he can make it in a season or 2?
whats happened to ricardo fernandes? he was superb, but suffered a sever injury i heard. Fabio is a good player no doubts, but adrien silva( the other player you wanted but failed to get with the other 2) is the real gem in their academy How has Fabio looked though? who do you think he plays like? its been a while since i saw him from his u17 days. He was quick and skillfull, u said hes a bit physical now..good to see!
To be fair, I didn't follow either Ferreira or Fernandes when they were in Sporting's academy so all I can say they went for the spotlight "so to speak" and he, Ferreria hasn't really progressed to match the move.
I read somwhery that the kaby to chelsea was called off after Maureen left the club. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/2007/09/29/jose-exit-has-kaby-stalled-89520-19868380/
So, are there any new talents from Portugal this season? Barbosa has done well. Adrien Silva looks promising, but it seems a bit thinn behind these players I think. Coentrao and Gama seems pretty good tough. And Rui Patricio also looks to be the real deal.
You don´t like Coentrao? He was very good in U20 WC the past summer. Maybe not the most effective player, but he has great tecnical abilities.
So, what are yout toughts about these players? Who do you think has the most potential? Daniel Carrico with Sporting is also a name to mention, he has been good with the U19 NT. And someone named Ribeau or something.
This one is too easy to answer, by far the best from they younger players is Antunes miles ahead of the rest of the clowns (including Gama i hate this guy) at the u20. I don't know if anyone remembers Mano (RB who played at the u20 and is currently with Belenenses, gangsta looking brotha, the guy who pushed over that Chile player after he kneed Coentrao's ugly face) he didn't look too bad either. My fondest memory of that summer would be after the Mexico game, me my bro cousin and two Guatamaan neighbours went to the back of the stadium to catch the players going on to the buses.Antunes (I always thought he looked Irish)was the nicest guy there signing autographs before saying bye to everyone. Then Mano came, I remember he was signing shirts and I yelled his name and he turned and looked at me and I said "whatever you do, don't listen to your coach" (Jose Couceiro) and everyone around me started laughing but the poor guy didn't understand a word I said lol
One I want to see is Ricardo Fernandes, he's an amazing player and I've seen him play a couple times with the Chelsea academy team and he's got a wicked shot to go with some good vision and ball control.
I met the team at a Hall I worked at and these chicks were talking with Zezinando in english and Mano was lost and asked Ze if he understood everything and Zezinando told him in Portuguese "of course I do, I've been to school man" the way he said it was such a put down I had to laugh.
Haha...thats sounds like a funny situation. Mano seemed alright. He was really physical which is good, but he wasn't too good at crossing. But boy did he show some heart. Antunes is the one that comes to my mind right now. Paim? Haven't seen any of him recently, poor kid completlely fell off the radar.
I think he might be a forward or attacking mid, might even be able to play CM, very promising though, I hear alot about Fabio Ferreira but out of the chelsea youths it was this man and scott sinclair who caught my eye when i watched a few games.
