With so many bubble teams still alive in the conference playoffs, I thought it may be fun to list them here to keep track. Let's keep track of the teams that have to keep winning to have any shot at the NCAA"S. UVA - has to win the ACC to climb to .500 Penn State - same situation with Big Ten
previously posted by luvdabears: "Well, word on the street is wrong. UVA needs to win the conference tournament to get in. However, if they lose Friday, don't be surprised if they play a match over the weekend in C-Ville." ldb, what's up wit dat?
Next loss ends the season: UAB NCSU USC - probably over regardless Davidson College of Charleston UNC-G
UAB without ? What do you base this on? 9-4-5 overall 1-0-2 vs. top 20? They may be legit w/ a win over St. Louis tonight.. but to say they are in w/out questions is a stretch. No real quality wins (Cincinatti is the lone top 20). 3-4-3 over their last 10 games Not a great schedule. They may be ranked in the South NSCAA poll - but Coach Getman is the chair.
Re: UAB without ? Actually their record is 10-4-5. They have been ranked most of the season. They were undefeated in their first 8 games with important ties against top 10 ranked Notre Dame and Indiana at IU. UAB only has 4 defeats. They have a recent win over the # 20 ranked Conference USA Co-Champion Cincinnatti 1-0 at Cincy. UAB just defeated a strong Louiville team. They fully deserve their # 4 ranking in the South Region. Would you rank any teams above them?
Good points Valid argument. I still say it isn't a no brainer. If Wake doesn't win ACC: Wake - at large UNC - at large FIU - automatic SOCON winner - automatic Atlantic Sun winner - automatic Big South winner (not sure - they may be S. Atlantic region) - automatic So if UAB doesn't win the automatic - they are battling: NCSU Clemson USC SoCon loser - Davidson, CofC, UNC-G all have similar arguments as UAB for the 6th or 7th team from the South region to get in. I don't know that any above deserve a spot for the last at-large - the South may only get 5/6. I don't think that is w/out question. If they beat St. Louis - I agree they are in.
I hope UAB makes it wo/ a win over St Louis cos they are getting pounded 3-0 in the 1st half. http://www.conferenceusa.com/sports/msoccer/champs/updates.asp?GAME_ID=300 C-USA freshman of the year Vedad Ibisevic with the hattrick. Foutre!
Next Loss end's UAB's season SLU 5, UAB 1 UAB finishes 10-5-5 overall 1-2-2 vs. current ranked teams 4-5-3 since Oct. 1 (and 1-2 vs. ranked) They tied IU & Notre Dame opening weekend. Tied UNC-C who may get an automatic. Beat Cincinatti. No other solid results. There is no way they are in "without question". There are already 5 teams guaranteed spots from the South - and UNC-C could make 6. An at large bid is a stretch.
I'd move UAB from Questionable to Doubtful after that drubbing...They played their first 8 games w/o a loss? Then go 10-5-5?? Doesn't look like they are playing well in the seconf half of the season and down the stretch, the commitee will look at that very close. I say they don't make it....
