Tottenham gained three points in the London derby taking advantage of Liverpool's failure to claim the spoils against struggling Wolves.

Burnley lost the Lancashire derby and bottom club Portsmouth gained a point at home.

In the fight for fourth place Tottenham extended their lead over Liverpool after beating Fulham 2-0 at White Hart Lane.

Peter Crouch gave Spurs a first half lead and the surprising name of David Bentley doubled the host's advantage on the hour mark.

Bentley, who seems to be on his way out of Tottenham, saw his free kick deflect off Bjorn Helge Riise and past Mark Schwarzer.

Liverpool climb above Manchester City into fifth place on goal difference after being held to a frustrating scoreless draw at relegation threatened Wolves.

Even the return of captain Steven Gerrard was insufficient inspiration for the Reds who have now played two games more than City.

The point was more valuable to Wolves who keep out of the drop zone on goal difference at the expense of Burnley who now find themselves in the bottom three.

The Clarets travelled to Bolton and lost to the only goal of the game in the 34th minute from Chung-Yong Lee, giving Owen Coyle his first Premier League victory as Bolton manager, just 18 days after leaving Burnley.

The travelling fans greeted Coyle with chants of 'Judas' and their mood was not helped after the goal was awarded after the ball hit underside of the bar and did not appear to cross the line.

Another battle of the cellar dwellers ended all square as Portsmouth and West Ham shared the spoils down on the South coast.

Pompey remain rooted to the bottom after coming from behind at Fratton Park.

The Hammers took the lead in fortuitous circumstances when Alessandro Diamanti's curling cross to the far post was bundled home as Matthew Upson challenged defender Younes Kaboul early in the second period.

But Avram Grant's side levelled with 14 minutes remaining through substitute Danny Webber, who had only been on the field a matter of minutes.
