That was one of the worst of the tournament so far.

That was the most blatant offside mistake I think I've ever seen at the World Cup. Tevez was a good two yards ahead of any defender. What the heck was the linesman looking at?

I am just saying that Argentina didn't deserved to be winning 1-0 and Mexico losing 0-1. so matematically Mexico was technically behind by 2 goals. but okay it happened and Mexico needed to comeback to win Mexico needed 2 legal goals in order to win. thats all i am saying.

I certainly Agree. the best team still won and clearly but the game will forever be fouled as yoy put it. I also think that The Mexican Coach made several mistakes, and did not even used all of his 3 substitution options. which if done could have made a more enjoyable game. i Think that Venado Medina should have gone in. Instead of Franco and Moreno Instead of Osorio but well that's the reason why i think we didn't come back.

Brilliant game today except for not calling that offsides which ended up being a goal. Tevez is exceptional, and the same goes for Messi. To me Argentina dominated much of the second half, Mexico seemed like they were starting to give up.

But really how many more bad calls are we going to get? I bet in the Final matchup there's going to be that controversial one that will be talked about for years.

Mod Note:A few threads exist already to discuss the officiating so let's not drag that mess in to this thread. The blatant offside on Tevez is definitely applicable to this thread but let's try not to beat it to death.

Oh, ya, forgot about that. Apparently the Jabulani has voleyball-like contours. Maybe Fabio was confused on that strike, or shall we say his "spike".

Sorry, but if you need only 2 goals to win, then you are down 1-0. if you are "down 2-0", then you need 3 to win. Unless we're talking different math here? ;)

Yes, definitely subs were not so good. but I feel like we don't know if the best team won or not. I think Argentina may have been the best team, but there was no way to tell, since we only got to see 20 minutes of real game before it was fouled up.

Hmm, i think Mexico dominated most of the match after we scored the third goal, possibly the players relaxed but also Mexico came out with all they had. But there were many fouls apparently that was won by Mexico 26-10.

One thing that really pisses me off is the Mexican media saying that Argentina had the better players but Mexico had the better coach.

The gusy from ESPN said it clearly.. up to this point Maradona had used 20 of his 23 players. while Aguirre only used 15 up untill the beginning of this match.

and the sustitutions were badly timed and for the wrong reasons.

so whats this discussion all about now? mexico lost. period. they can be happy not to loose anymore in the quarters against germany, because their midfield with özil and schweinsteiger would take mexicos defense apart even worse (like 5:1). argentina still has a chance though. at least as long they dont let play mr. demifailure.:p

i'm not gonna lie maradona made dumb changes... he should never have taken off tevez for veron

the first change i would have made would have been pastore for maxi, then aguero for tevez, then bolatti for di maria at the end

I forgot to mention Pastore, when he comes in he does interesting stuff, i guess he can be a good partner for Messi too.

That goal was bouncing back from back of the net when the keeper got there. Get real, no keeper in the world could of saved that.

Having said that (and I'm Mexican), if you want to be a world champion, or at least a real protagonist in a World Cup, you need to have the mental fortitude to overcome a poor decision by the referee. Unfortunately, some Mexican players were not there.

Curiously enough, I think the ones who tried to change the outcome of the game, even with a 3-0, where the guys who will be in the national team for a long time: Barrera, Juarez, Chicharito, Gio... all of them 23 years old or younger. The ones who were losing their mind or making poor judgments (Osorio and Rafa), have probably seen their last world cup.

So yes... I'm mad at the referee for not getting the first one right (Mexico was actually doing a bit better than Argentina at that point in the match) but I'm even madder at the supposedly experienced players for losing focus afterwards.

    Congratulations to Argentina.

Argentina didn't even played all they are capable of and Messi had a subpar day, eventhough a few of his runs were exceptional. Just like the US; Mexico suffered from coaching mediocrity. Why did Bofo start this game I'm sure is a question with no decent answer? Were was CB? Why take out Guardado? Should I continue? Diego's tactics were a joke and Mexico should have exploited Argentina's weak side defense instead of trying to score from 30m away. Chicharito is way too young, he should have been brought from the bench in the 2nd half. History will never make you win a game where u make those mistakes against a team like Argentina who tactically should have lost this game. Had Diego replaced the ineffective (other than his lucky goal) Higuain for Milito and had started Veron for Mascherano this would have been a massacre. Time for Mexico to look for a Dutch coach (like Ten Cate), Bielsa or Hiddink.

No foreign coach in their right mind would coach Mexico. Between a lack of knowledge of the medium (except for Bielsa), having to deal with a highly political FEMEXFUT, and press and opinion leaders who hate anything non-Mexican, this would be the worst environment in which to try to present a winning product.

Poor Mexico; what a bad way to start the game but they shouldn't have allowed it to get them so rattled. As bad as the call was, the captain being so experienced should have used it to psych them up and get more focus and hustle out of them but .... They had the whole game to play and Argentina didn't look great at all. They had problems controling the midfield. Mascherano got very few touches on the ball and he made his defenders nervous with two bad back passes so much that it seemed they were refusing to pass him the ball and instead walking up and airing it forward instead of a layered build-up. Mexico should have used Dosantos to go at the heart of Argentine defense, would have paid dividend.

I am against technology because its use over time will become more intrusive once it's introduced which will kill the continuity of the game and eventually change and kill the game. Media is indirectly pushing technology because it will be like time-out; aka, commercials. :) Some of these bad calls are utterly nonsense; kinda like the ball is "alright" ;)

Argentine can't get result against Germany with this line up. Let's not sacrifice the tournament. Let's do the right thing.

So it's logical to think that one offsides goal destroyed Mexico so much - hence it is why they let in 2 more?

Sorry, I don't share that apologetically BS mentality.

Sorry but Messi was for the first time in WC playing HIS role.
I told you 3 games before Messi will be unable to play though

The referee and Osorio destroyed Mexico. The only good I saw in this game were the two fantastic goals, one from Tevez and one from Hernandez.

I hated the changes, but they make sense.
Tévez spend too many energy, so with 3 goals in favor, it made sense to protect him from attrition, to have him in better state in the next match.

Mexico played defensive game, and was outscored by many goals, until Argentina decided to remain on his field on the second time.

Having 2 or 3 players over Messi, (in the same position) it's the same that having 2 players in red card. They cannot be on other places.

Yes, the lineman made that first goal, and the second has lot to blame on Mexican defender, but to profit goals from it, the ball necessarily should be on the arc vicinity. And that is Argentine merit.

This is the truth. Plain and simple. Champions need the mental strength to keep their composure and fight back in a game when they go down no matter what the circumstance.
