Right after the successful ManUre-Celtic game in Seattle last summer, the rumors were circulating that the promoter, ChampionsWorld, was planning a similiar stop next summer. The two teams mentioned were Real Madrid vs Liverpool.

The Champions world website mentions nothing, so I was just wondering if anyone over there had heard anything about this potential games, or about a US tour next summer.

    Cheers

I don't see how champions world is going to do a tour next year with Euro 2004 going on. Wouldn't that mean none of the top Euros would come?

Not necessarily. Euro 2004 is over by July 4 and clubs are still going to have pre-season games. Last summer, several articles about the Man United tour mentioned the possibility of Liverpool visiting next year.

I'd imagine it would be contingent on a place in the Champions League and a certain big name player staying with the club before they start spending time and money promoting it.

Well, his contract runs through the 2004/2005 season, and if he leaves us, I betcha he Maccas us. (Yes, I just made that a verb.) But despite Liverpool's following among ex-pats, I agree that a CL spot is a must-have. (Where have I heard that before?)

Why would we be pissed? Rumors like this are a dime a dozen, and I for one have heard something like this at least once a year for five years or so now . . .

Hell, it'll probably end up being Ajax and Bayern, or some such thing. Whatever frustrates as many BS posters as possible.

Actually, I am trying to confirm a rumor - source below. I bring it up because the local club, the Seattle Sounders of the A-league, are promising season ticket holders first chance at buying tickets to "the summer international game", if it materializes.

David Beckham didn't make it to Seattle this time, but the most globally recognized name in soccer might have his talents on display at Seahawks Stadium in 2004.

Last night's Manchester United-Celtic exhibition match was such a popular venture, with most of the 67,000 seats sold over three days, that efforts are under way to bring Real Madrid and Liverpool to the city next summer, according to a source close to the negotiations and wishing to remain unidentified.

I'm not so sure a Champion's League spot is a must - after all, Barcelona was on the tour this last year...
