I think it was an European game when they fought each other on the pitch. What happened?

Yeah Batty and Le saux went at it against Spartak in Moscow in 1995. It was said that Batty said something Le Saux didn't like and so Graeme went after Batty. Ugly, ugly, ugly. Hope that never happens again.

The inside dirt is that one of the two (I don't remember which one) was suspected of being a pouf by the rest of the team. As such, in those unenlightened times, the whole squad was making many gay digs, on and off the pitch. During that particular match (which I believe was Rovers' debut in Europe) the suspected pouf had had quite enough, and decided to settle the dispute the old-fashioned way.

My memory is a bit fuzzy on the whole thing, but it was definitely some sort of gay bashing going on, whether or not the bloke was gay or not I don't know.

It happened last year with Newcastle players. Amazingly, Shearer wasn't involved. Remember?

Definitely remember Bowyer's fisticuffs on the pitch. While it's not good for the game for any pair of team-mates going at it on the pitch, I hope it never happens again for any of our Rovers most of all.

So Le Saux was being accused of being gay? I knew he was always looked down upon and given alot of stick because he came from a pretty well-off family and married into a wealthy family too, if I recall.

Whatever the case, it's just silly to come to blows on the pitch.

    What an embarresment that was!

Le Saux was always accused of being gay and in the replay you can lip read Batty saying something along these lines.

The hole incedent took away that fact that Rovers got hammered 3-0 and never got in the game.

    Pic can be seen here....
