J: "Who's participating in his first full international today."

T: "I don't know. Who's participating in his first full international today?"

J: "Exactly. That's what I've been trying to tell you!"

    T: "Who?"

J: "Right. By the way - I don't know is in goal today."

What on earth are you talking about? Is Jack's wit and insight too much for you to take? Or is your life so pathetic that you must take time out of your day to lambast the job performance of a good, decent human being, who at least has the self-respect, not to mention the civilized manners, not to mock the vocational skills of a fellow human being?

I think you might be the first and only one to agree with me on that.

I have no time for a sense of humor, as my mission in life, to which I devote all of my time and energy, is to defend Jack Edwards from the libelous emitions that spew forth from the foaming mouths of the pathetic mass that lack the integrity to affect positive change and instead choose to sit on their overpriced leather easychairs, open up their bottle of Zima, take a sip, and speak harshly about an honest, decent man who never did anyone any harm.

Is it not the case that when one chooses to step across the line from being a relatively unknown citizen to being a public figure or celebrity of some sort, that the rules of the game change greatly.

Do you object to posts where the vocational skills of a professional athlete are mocked, or movie stars, or politicians. When people mock the behavior of, say, Mike Tyson, is that pathetic?

(I am sure Jack is a decent person, unlike Mike Tyson. But they both are "fellow human beings" as you put it)

Is the word 'mock' key to your post? Do you have any problem when, rather than being silly, a poster goes into specific details regarding what they believe are shortcomings in how Jack does his job?

Or do you think Jack is particularly good? If that is the case, perhaps you could spend the time spelling out in serious terms what it is about him that particularly appeals to you, within the universe of Soccer announcers you have listened to before.

Although everyone on here complains about the two. My mother, who knows very little about soccer, said she "enjoyed" watching the All-star game becuase of the commentators. (This should not be an opening to make fun of my poor old mother.) Of course to her nothing compares to Joe Morgan.

I like Jack and his enthusiasm, but his use of language and his unending chatter are horrible. And every good move is the best he has ever seen.

Only a member of the pathetic mass would hide behind such a cowardly excuse to lambaste a decent human being. Incidentally, I believe this is the first time on bigsoccer that Jack Edwards has been referred to as a "celebrity." Be still my heart.

My mission is to defend Jack Edwards from the harsh invective launched at him as a sadistic means of healing the inner wounds of self-deficiency of the pathetic mass. My mission is not to defend professional athletes, movie stars, or politicians in such circumstances. And comparing Mike Tyson, a convicted felon, to Jack Edwards, a decent human being, is pathetic.

At no point did I write the words "fellow human beings." The concept of constructive criticism is not one of constructing facts to create unwarranted criticism.

If said poster were constructive, and, dare I say it, moderately original, in his criticism, I would certainly approach the issue with an open mind. However, such posts occur with a regularity similar to that of the changing of the Pope, so I am not holding my breath.

An unscientific study indicates that most bigsoccer posters yearn for an announcer in the Martin Tyler mold (namely, British) who will launch into poetry readings at every turn and touch on the ball. If I want flowery description and vivid imagery, I'll read Hawthorne. If I want to watch a soccer game and hear the play-by-play announcer call the game in a vernacular prose that does not make me feel that I am at a Greenwich Village Starbucks during open mic night, I'll listen to Jack Edwards call the MLS match I watch every Saturday at 4:00 on ESPN2.

I will always want to hear Jack and Ty. As if I wasn't prouder already rooting for the US, they make me feel ten times prouder. They are not afraid to say anything. When Cobi was trapped in the corner by two defenders during the All-Star game, Ty said something like that had the two defenders been Mexican, Cobi would have been knocked to the turf. That was hilarious and true. Last year, during a Metrostars and Galaxy game, Jack came straight out and said American football was boring because it stopped too much. "Mine eyes have seen the glory" and "The Land of the Free, the Home of the Brave are headed to the quarterfinals", was gold. It was a great call. No, it was not rehearsed. It was pure emotion and passion. Had Pablo Ramirez on Univision said that instead, I bet everyone would be complimenting on what a great call that was and what passion and emotion he showed. But because it's Jack, people are saying it's rehearsed. This is being completely biased towards Jack. The calls by the Spanish announcers after a goal is great. But for once, I would actually like to hear the crowd noise after an exciting goal. With Jack and Ty, I can actually hear the crowd noise after a goal. Plus, don't even begin with me on having European commentators. They don't show any emotion. Look at Mike Hill. Listening to Mike Hill is like watching golf. He shows no emotion on any goals. Also, I don't get why people make fun of it when Jack said that Ajax is the New York Yankees of Dutch soccer. Well how else is he suppose to explain the difference between a club and country for those who are unfamiliar with it? People ask me all the time about the difference of club and country. Also, "full international" is the correct term to use. Youth and Olympic games don't count as caps. So Jack is using the right term. These two are the right commentators.

Jack means well but he is as CORNY as they come. He didn't rehearse the "my eyes have seen the glory" line?? Come on! He wrote that one a couple of years ago while taking a dump. I'm sure he ran out of the bathroom with his pants around his ankles telling his wife - "I did it, I finally did it!"

The Al Michaels call during the '80 olympics was genuine. I find it hard to believe that Jack has many original thoughts - at least where announcing soccer is concerned.
